Today's Diver's Den Green Carpet: Gig or Haddoni

I bought the green carpet on Diver's Den today. Labelled as haddoni but looks more like a gig to me, or at least a hybrid of some sort. Thoughts?

I think they are very much an expert inID animal. I am not prepare to say that they are wrong from the picture above. In person it is so much easier to ID an animal also

i dont think it matter because you already bought it :D and we will know for sure once you recieve it.

i have a red haddoni with tentacles just like that so if you based on the tentacles it can be deceiving

also i see you are in NY area, call up Aquarium Village they bring in gigs more frequently than not.

I would be shocked if LA/DD mislabeled it. Not saying it hasnt happened but that would be a huge screw up on their part. I would plan on it being a haddoni

I agree that DD ID is typically very accurate and I am certainly far from sure that this is a true gigantea, however, this is no ordinary haddoni. Tentacles are far too long; tentacle spacing resembles that of a gig and the posture/folding is very gig-like. Also, DD described the base and foot of the anemone as follows: "underside of the oral disc is purple, with a smooth purple/tan column and blue pedal disc." A blue pedal disk strongly suggests gigantea. Also, the diameter of the pedal disk is described as 3 1/4'', while the oral disk is described as 8 1/2'' - the proportionately narrow foot is highly suggestive of gigantea.

With that description, I think he is a Haddoni/Gigantea hybrid.
Regardless, take good picture of the column and of the foot on arrival for us. I have had two hybrid and love both of them.

Nice looking. Will be fun to see what it is. It looks like a hybrid to me.

It looks really good but be prepared to treat it.

I have purchased a mis labled anemone from them before so they are no expert. I bought a red hadoni that they had listed as a red gig.

LA is not infallible; see below.

I don't think they meant to list that red haddoni as a gig, I think someone had a brain fart when they put the scientific name in. I could be wrong, how old was that listing?

And very nice anemone, we need more pics.

They added another red haddoni tonight!

They did and it was sold promptly after the link went live.

Regarding the other mislabeled haddoni, I think we can agree that 1) it doesn't look like a gig, and 2) they don't exist (aside from a single documented specimen which is most likely a hybrid or a haddoni with gigantea attributes).

Agreed. The only possible red gig is likely a hybrid in Greenwich. Also, to be clear, I did not purchase the mislabeled haddoni, I just recalled seeing it when it was posted. It's pretty clear, however, that LA did not simply just mislabel the scientific name, as they referred to it as a "True Carpet Anemeone," which is how they label gigs.
