Todays Meeting

I just wanted to say thanks to those of you that came out today. It was nice meeting you & hearing your ideas for the club & things we can try to do in the future. Dont be discouraged by the small turnout. It was a beautiful Day so im sure that affected it some. Things will be changing & today we got the ball rolling.

Andy & I made a trip to the critter, & discussed a few things with Chris & will be having a nice little deal to announce once everything is finalized & he has a chance to get with Gabberjaw to bring her up to date. So keep your eyes peeled for the announcment. All the info will be posted on the MTRC.org website.

Again thanks to those who made it out today & it was nice meeting all of you. Im finally able to put some faces with some names.

i understand how you feel palegic7 i have only been to two meetings so i dont know anyone. my wife said i need to say more sorry for my lack of participation i dont know anyone or much about the hobby. i have never been in any sort of club before so i dont know what to expect or what direction you should go but i do like all the ideas we had yesterday and am very excited about the coming year.

to be hononest i almost skipped. it is hard to drive an hour to sit and talk about buisiness like stuff. i am glad i went though. it is a great group of people. the tidbit about not throwing the liquid from frozen food into the tank was worth the trip. i had never heard or thought about that. i think as the meetings become more reefy and less buisinessy attendance will pick up. lets face it buisness is not fun, just nessasary.

I liked seeing everyone and I agree with Jason that the nice weather could have affected the turn out some. I wish I hadn't been running late and had got there sooner to hear of what went on. I got filled in on some things. You can learn alot just from haning out and talking the experinced can learn from the new and the other way around. Ive learned just as much listening to two other people's conversations about certain things. Never be afraid to ask questions or get other people's opinions on things. It will usually save you money and heatache. Where do it look like the nect meeting will be ?

Here we go again! This Is the same kind of SECERET dealings that went on all the time In the past, Like the members are somehow not good enough to be told about thing as they are planned or come about In the first place! If you Intended to do this ? Why was It not discussed at the meeting by all the members??? Come On Folks I thought there was gonna be some change that stopped all the " Only the BOD knows what's going on "
I also think that the Attendance was very poor, May have been the whether or some other reason but If people are not going to participate In the process the club Is only going to decline In the Future. Everyone needs to have their opinion on the direction of where we go from here heard! Also the transition from old to new board was non existent and seems to me that the new people had to fly by the seat of their pants due to the lack of any help from the former BOD. Only Rhett showed Up at the first new meeting.
Last but not Least I'm very surprised about the actions taken In the past with the clubs Dues Money, tying It up for 2 years without any of us ever being told this was being done or why. The more I find out about all the secret dealings the more I want everything out In the open from now on.
The Club was meant for the benefit of the members not the BOD or building a huge cash reserve for having the most expensive frag swap we could afford.
The Frag swap Is a great thing but It should not be the only reason we pay dues for nor the only reason we have the club. IMO It has been the members that trade frags or sell among ourselves that makes a frag swap a success, Not making It a commercial selling bonanza for profit!!! By others that only come for making money. This Is my Hobby and that Is the way I want to keep It.
I'm sure there will be plenty of comments about all this but this Is JMHO and yours Is Encouraged...

Brother you have no idea (or maybe you do) how non exsistent the transition was, thus the reason I was ill prepared yesterday but that will be the 1st and last time I am not prepared. I still got some notes though so I will post those on our website as soon as I can get everything together. Just be patient with my first meeting notes cause I have no former threads or templates that I can kind of go by.


I see what your saying Bill and I will make sure that when I post my notes about meetings that I include as much info as I can so that even if you were not present you will still be able to know what went on and what things we can look forward to.

Communication is something that we are striving to improve greatly since your thoughts about communication are dead even with how I felt as well. Trust me this will not be the case this year.

This is blunt, but I know you know its not personal: If you want to know everything that's going on, join the BOD. Its not like the BOD isn't going to tell everyone, just that things probably need to be finalized before they're released. Not a big deal and certainly not at all as though the members aren't good enough to know.

Before we go kicking up dust, lets give them at least 2 or 3 months to settle in and get going.

I understand where this is driving from, and after our phone conversation this morning all I can say is please give us a chance before blasting us. No one is hiding anything. The meeting minutes will be coming out either today or tomorrow (depending on Mikes schedule) so thst everyone has an opportunity to see them. It has been less than a day, and frankly the majority of our first meeting eas jsut trying to get our ducks in a row as a board and as a team. Now if it was 2 weeks and we hadn't communicated, I could understand a response as strong as yours...but it's less than a day.

AS for the things that have occured in the past..we cannot undo it, we can only move forward from this point on.

I luv ya bro and take what you say to heart....all I ask is for a little tempereance. This BOD team is very eager to move things ahead. I am very enthusiastic about working with them.

Brandon, No offense taken but I did not want to be on the BOD, But I do think all the unnecessary secrecy Is something that there Is no reason for Period! If all things that are talked about are In the open It benefits all and does no one any harm, Even If you feel It's unnecessary others may not, So where Is the harm In telling people what Is being planned? So that they have a feeling that they are part of what Is going on In the club. This whole mindset that the BOD should operate In private Is IMO not the way to make people feel Inclusive In the process of what's going on. I totally was blown away by some things I learned were done In secret and members were never told of at all! So to me the best solution Is everything out In the open all the time NO Exceptions. That's JMO though and others may see It differently, But at least I'm trying to be Proactive this time around B4 things happen that are not good for the members.
Didn't think voicing my opinion was kicking up dust, And don't take that personal! Seeing the sparse turnout yesterday Is a concern and what ever the reasons for It needs to be addressed ASAP I'm sure the new guy's will get a handle on things but If we make no comments as to where to go then how do they know of the Issues that concern us? If this is in referance to the Critter deal, Its special group buy pricing on Coralife Salt & all the info is on the club site. Why were you not told at the meeting? Well we hadnt planned on going to the critter it was spur of the moment thing, I was getting live Brine to get my Blue Jaw to eat. The Group buy on salt conversation just came up while we were there & thats why I posted about a upcoming announcment it in this thread thanking the folks tha came to the meeting. There has been no secrets Ive said that from the beginnning.

If I had planned on going to the critter to set up a special deal I would have said it at the meeting, It just happened. You all came to the critter also I didnt see you saying where you were headed after the meeting? Yesterday was the first meeting & there has been no transistion process, Ive never ran a club & Im sure there is a learning curve, & we will all catch on. Also no of us have had any control over the money that has been put in a CD it happened way before us & I honestly dont know what you expect us to do about it untill it matures. Im sorry your so disgusted so soon & maybe your feelings will change once we get the swing of things. Also the only reason this is in bold is to break up the 2 sections between your post & mine. Hmmmm If each person does what they are suppose to do things will run smoothly. This is all for fun and there should be no hard feelings. I will say some people should think more before they open their mouths but Ive even fell victim to this at one time or the other. Yeah I just need some time to get everything together. Just be a little patient with me guys cause I have no previous things to go on so I am basically doing all my stuff duties from scratch but I'll get it done.

This is all rather amusing in a sad sort of way. Every time I get on here it's some more bickering and politics. I find it amusing that Bill had set up the Coralife salt at the critter to start with and then now we get the "news" that there is a "Coralife salt buy at the critter" with all details on the MTRC website. It's not news, he put all the details in his own threads and left it open for people to join in. I'll just go ahead and buy the 300 gallon box of salt and do my own deal, since nobody feels it necessary to put the details here.

Hard to believe people scratch their heads at the dismal turnout and lack of membership and support this year. I certainly hope things turn around soon otherwise I see no reason to even visit the forum as it's all the same BS every time I get on here. It's old.

Also, has anybody researched what penalty there is to remove the money from the CD and make it available for use? How much cash is there on hand, and how much is in the CD? That way we can see as a club what resources we have so we can all make informed decisions as to what equipment can be purchased and what we can even realistically expect for events for the entire year if there is very little cash available.

Bill you seem to have a nack for sticking you foot in your mouth maybe you should find out the facts before you post things. The CD that you are talking about is only a 9mth CD that was brought brcause we did not want to keep all the money in a acct that earned no interest. Also yes we use some of it to prepay for things for the swap but the swap is what makes the money in the club. That is why we did a 9 mth one. This is the 2nd time we got one and it is all my falt as I do not like having money just sit in an account. So tieing up something for two years is a bunch of crap. You can pull it out if you want but that would be preaty stupid sence the club should have over 2k in the otther accts. The dues have been spent for some of the other things that we had been doing. Also your comment about of no support from the prior board I know Norman has given all the stuff that he had and I had talked to Jason to give him all the stuff when he wanted. Me and Norman were not at the meeting because of his surgery on thursday. Bill you need to check the facts before you type. I like others am tired of a few people always starting a bunch of crap. You were nominated to be on the BOD but refused so you should be the last person be judging the BOD already. They have been in office less then a month.
