This is the park I normally go to to get pics of Indian Pipe. I had thought they cane up later in the summer and at Todd's they do. There were a few, but as you can see, there's a bit more to come. My wife likes to shoot fungus. This is the best place. Here's a ton of pics.

Wow. that place has some cool stuff. Do you check the milkweed for monarch caterpillars and chrysalis?

Morning Steve. There isn't any milkweed at this park. I do have other places I do look at it though. At this place there isn't enough light to support most plants. The canopy's of the trees don't let any light through. When you pull into the parking lot you smell the wet, moldy conditions.

Many different species of shrooms Jesse. Very cool.

I think I used to go there as a kid...but they called it Todd Sanctuary back then. If it's the same place, I haven't been there in 25+ years...but recall it to be pretty cool.

That's it. The name changed a couple years ago when it became part of the Audubon Society and Rachel Carson group.

I used to play hockey on that lake with my older brothers.

Rachel Carson? That trail starts in my back yard. I know it's long, but would be shocked it it went all the way up there.

It's part of the Rachel Carson Conservancy. There's also a trail up here that goes from Freeport to Butler that's supposed to be connected to your's at some future point.

Great shots Jesse! Looks like quite the place. I especially like the shot of the purple mushroom and the long, skinny ones growing off the bark.

I'm guessing you can't collect mushrooms in that park, but do you ever harvest any mushrooms to eat?

I don't eat them. We are also pretty strict about leaving the park the way we found it or cleaner. We take bags to pick up garbage others leave behind.

Yes I'm guessing it is probably against the rules to harvest mushrooms at that location... I wasn't trying to imply that you would do something untoward. I thought maybe on private land Jesse you may harvest mushrooms that you are familiar with, and are edible, given that you seem to know quite a bit about them. I know around these parts foraging for wild edibles is trendy, and can be lucrative, depending on what you can come up with. Growing up, friends that lived on farms with woodlots often would harvest "puffball" mushrooms to eat - I never tried them, but I'm told they are quite good!
