Toggle Bolts secure enough for light hanging?

I hung a 36" Current Outer Orbit Pro from my ceiling by drilling directly into joists in the ceiling, but need to move mounting location because i found a better tank location.

Current says that the toggle bolts are sufficient to hold the light up in the sheet rock without drilling into wood. They said they have never had an issue doing it.

What do you think? I am nervous about trusting those toggle bolts in sheet rock - thinking they could rip right through with a heavy light attached. If it was a small fixture i'd trust it, but the 36" is fairly heavy.

Thanks in advance for your advice
Ryan

I have a feeling that you will be fine.

However, if you want to be extra safe....Could always screw a 2*4 into the joists, then hang the fixture from that. To make it look nice, stain it, and put some nice crown molding around it. Might even look pretty cool.

I wouldn't.

In my house, anything hanging from the ceiling has got to be wood-screwed into a joist, or into a cross-member between two joists.

Period.

Get it in writing. This way, if it falls on someone's head, you can sue them.

That's what I'm saying, isn't it? If he gets written instructions from Orbit to suspend it from toggle bolts, and the toggle bolts give out, and the light cracks his head open....voila!!!

Instant lawsuit!!!

LOL...
In my house
What happens in the attic, stays in the attic.........

Here's a recent thread regarding hanging the Outer Orbit Pro from drywall ceilings. I sorta posted a picture tutorial of how I hung my 48 inch Pro. I personally didn't trust the toggle bolts that were provided. I sleep very well at night.

Nice work!

if you can catch the ceiling joists with a decorative piece of wood then mount the light to it. They also make fifty pound anchors that you could screw right into the sheetrock. Ask someone at homedepot they should be able to show you something.
