tomato or percula?

I am going to put one fish in my nano- and have decided on a clown. I can readily get any kind tank raised but have decided on the tomato- or percula. The closest this tank has to an anemone is some large green frilly mushrooms- so obviously i can`t expect hosting(esp from CBs) but it still would be nice. I have always liked the percula look- and have never had one at the house- but I also like the damsel like personality of the tomato. These are my thoughts- what are yours?

I currently have 2 tomato clowns in my 12 along with a BTA. I personally like the look and personality of both, and have a percula and an ocellaris clown in another tank. Both are cool, so it's really up to you.

tomato clowns get big try a perc awsome fish

To be a bit more specific about this, percula clowns can get to around 3" in size, while tomato clowns are known to get up to 6". I plan on moving mine into a larger tank in the somewhat near future. If you think you may upgrade to a larger tank once they grow, then the tomatos will be fine. Otherwise, a percula is probably going to be the way to go.

thanks bwest i am an *** who never gives enough info.

Well I have been wanting a perc or occe- gonna hit inland aquatics where they seem to breed most all kinds readily. I have always had good luck with tomatos hosting- and worried a bit about the percs ability in current- but think I will pick out a nice percula. Maybe a snowflake.........

I find percula behavior boring. I have a tomato.

Your tank size might not give you that option though.....

i have maroons and percs and the percs are very personalble but they are still very small the tomato clowns are much larger so no point a snowflake or a jigsaw would be cool hope youcome home with something nice

I think a tomato would be more interesting as a single fish. Ocellaris tend to stay in one place and flop around, and sleep at the surface.(I hate that). I don't think the tomato will outgrow your tank anytime soon. But if you eventually want to breed, I would recommend the Perc/Ocellaris route. 2¢

Thanks all! I agree with the tomato being more damsel like and personable. I had one that was only about the size of a quarter, that would excavate all day long. One grain of gravel- six feet down the tank and back for the next. To me tank size for either is acedemic- I will get a tiny and it will leave when it grows. To be honest a 12 gallon tank is too small for any salt fish-IMO. Maybe a neon goby or something- but I am old school- whatever people do with success I can`t argue with.
