Tomatoe/Ocellaris breeding!

Thanks guys. I already have a 5 gallon tank at the ready. Im going to shut all my lights off a little earlier than normal so im not doing this all night. What kind of light should i use to attract the fry? How long does it take them to head for the light?Lastly should i turn the light on after the main lights go off or should i leave the tank in total darkness for say an hour? Thanks for the help!!

You need to have total darkness until the fry start to hatch. Don't have any lights on in the room at all. Leave the room in total darkness for two hours. I use a small flashlight to collect the babies.

im excited i can only deam of your excitement good luck and if i dont see a pict i will hunt you down!

Well its been 2 hours and i put the flashlight up in the corner of the tank and waited. All that came to the light was copepods. I dulled the light and shined it on the eggs and there all still there from what i can tell :( I guess were going for a 9 day incubation. Im going to leave everything off for a little bit longer and see what happens. If nothing then ill try again tommorow night :)

I guess itll be 9 days. Im going to give it another 15 minutes and see if anything happens. On a good note ive seen some things i havent really seen in my tank LOL I found my long lost sea slug that i thought was dead. I havent seen it in months!! Lots of little brittle stars and pods! pretty cool :)

I know they have previously hatched so theres no doubt. Im just waiting for a friend to come by and grab some xenia out of my tank for him then its lights and pumps out :)

chris if i have my setup done i would attempt to raise them as that is all i have been reading and researching on. i want to get into this for the love of spreading captive breed fish so no more have to be taken from the ocean. at the next meeting if you have more pics i would love to see them. were you at lonnies friday? i dont thnk i saw you there.

They have hatched!! I have 13 so far :) This is going to take some time LOL
Keith no i wasnt at Lonnies. I couldnt make it. Im going to try to raise these guys up. I have lots of Rotifers so im set in that reguard :)

From what i read and heard i figured they would swarm up to the light. I now have a grand total of 19. Im going to give it another 30 minutes and then whatever is left will be fish food :( I dont even see any more in the tank. Theres maybe a handful of eggs that havent hatched yet and i know there was alot more than 19 eggs :(

They have all hatched but a handful. I have no clue where the rest went. I cant find them anywhere so i guess there in the rockwork and arent going to cooperate and be caught :( Oh well atleast ill have 19 to try to raise :)

This was a great thread. It was fun to go through pregnancy in 3 minutes :) Hope the babies are doing well and can't wait to see the baby pictures.
