Tomini Tang and Yellow Tang compatibility?

I currently have a yellow tang that is doing great. There is a really nice Tomini Tang at the fish store that I was thinking about getting. They claimed my Yellow Tang would beat the hell out of it. My Yellow Tang is about 3 inches and the Tomini was just a tad smaller. I have plenty of rock work and hiding places in my reef.

What say you, fish expert people?

I would not keep a yellow tang in a 55 let alone a yellow and a tomini tang. I wouldn't do it, but that's just me.

I know that is frowned upon but they are both small tangs(currently) and I plan on getting a larger tank within a year or two. I've had the Yellow Tang for over 6 months and it's doing great...

I agree. Buy for the tank you have, not the tank you plan on getting.
We have a 55 and last April we bought a 140. The 140 is still sitting in the garage.

By the time they "get too big" for your tank, you'll lose one or both of them because you won't realize just *when* they're getting too big. Then you have to catch them. In terms of saltwater aquariums, 6 months is but a blink...not long-term success.

Good advice.

Thanks, I'm also looking into a Copperband Butterfly but I have LPS and have concerns about the Butterfly eating my coral, any thoughts.

Sure they did. Don't get one, it will get too large for the tank. And the one that's already in there will also get too large for the tank. Which means one will beat the crud out of the other and the other will get stressed and be susceptible to diseases that could kill it too.

I honestly don't see size being an issue. The tomini tang is about 2 inches. It would take a couple years for him to get too big. I'm more worried about if they will get along. I'm still leaning toward the CBB, if I could get a straight answer about if it will eat my LPS...

Good, how is the CBB doing, they can be tricky to getting eating.

I actually just started a new thread on the subject. I saw him eat mysis at the LFS but I've had him for 24 hours and he has already turned down live black worms, mysis, and clams on half shell. He isn't even looking for food. He just swims in the same place for hours. He hasn't even tried to eat any of my feather dusters... :(
