Tomini Tang

I have heard that these guys can be harder to keep than the other bristletooth tangs. Those who have kept this fish, what are your experiences with it? Is it just hard to get eating or more sensitive to water quality or what?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Sometimes they have trouble eating, but the main obstacle is malnutrition. You must ensure that this tang receives plenty of diatoms in its diet, as well as the associated sediment they are often associated with (so basically diatoms and detritus). But they need it via adequate open sand surface area. That well help them do better.

Yep. Water quality-wise, it's like your typical tang. Give it some clean water, moderate current and good oxygen levels, and it will be happy. Lots of live rock will help give them plenty of grazing areas, and in turn plenty of food. They should also take dried seaweed, not sure about macroalgae.

mine is not picky at all. I've had him for about two months. he eats flake, frozen, nori, and constantly picks at the rocks and glass. he's also picked at my acanthastrea a little bit but not enough to seriously damage it. always has a full stomach.
