Tomini Tangs

I was thinking about getting one because they stay small as far as tangs go...
But they seem to be seldom carried (live aquaria has them, thats about it)... but how hard are they to care for? The opinions on keeping them alive seems kind of mixed.
If not, whats a suggested small variety tang that may work better in a 90. I know everyone will say Kole or yellow, but I'm looking a little bit more obscure if I can. I saw some places sell generic "bristletooth" tangs (the striped ones), I think a 90 is probably to small for a chevron, so now I'm out of fish.
Also, with as critical it is to get a bristletooth with a mouth in good shape, is it in my best interest to get one locally (aka, make the LFS order one)? Or would a place like live aquaria or marine depot be good about making sure the one they ship is in good shape?

I got mine from Live Aquaria about 6 months ago. Doing well at this time. Much more skidish/shy than any tang type I have ever had. Does not like the feeding clip as my other tangs but it is the lone tang in a 75g, so it may take time. Stayed hidded ALOT at first.

I got mine 3 years ago from liveaquaria.com right after the black out and it's the most interesting tang to watch - very peaceful and graces all day. I would say it loves being in my tank. Not very hard to take care - just make sure you got plenty of live rocks for it to grace on.

i would agree with the above posts...

live aquaria is the online place i order from most often... they generally ship very high quality fish/coral/inverts & if there is ever a problem (i have had a few fish lost due to crappy shipping on top of a gnarly hot streak) they are VERY easy to deal with... they understand that stuff happens & dont make you jump through hoops to get a refund.

if the LFS has to order the fish in make sure you arent obligated to buy the fish if you dont feel its up to par.

really great fish & beautiful in its own way... really stands out when your tank is full of anthias and other really bright fish ;)

hope this helps,

I got one saturday from LA.

Came looking pretty good, mows through seaweed like a lawnmower, but is still acting shy. Everytime I go into the room, it swims into a pipe. But the few looks I've gotten, it doesn't have ich, so... so far so good.

Ahhhhh....always good to see a quarantine tank;) Beautiful fish! We've had one at work for quite some time...I would love to bring him home but I think my Whitefaced Tang would not appreciate it...too close in color
Good luck! These Tangs are not as prone to ich as The Ancanthurus ...maybe you'll get lucky!!
