Toms SPS Dominant Reef

Tank is now around six months old. For the last 3 months my nitrates have been around 10ppm. Wasn't really concerning me as everything was doing fine.

Then in the space of 2 weeks it's dropped to 1/2ppm. Havnt really changed the feeding (I feed a lot) or my maintenance routine. Guess the tank must just be maturing.

I only tested becuase a few of my sps started to demonstrate Burt tips. My alk has been rock solid so I guess the drop in nutrients meant that keeping alk at 8.5dkh was a little high. I the past I have run tanks with biopellets and the ulns meant I had to keep alk lower. I guess the same applies if you go from 10 to 1ppm.

Other than that the tank is doing great. I do however have the itch to add more fish. Current stocking is a tomini tang, flame angle, marron clown, LN hawk, 3 LT anthias, 2 wrasses and a goby. I like smaller active fish and was also constipating adding another trio of anthias.

I switched from LEDs to a T5 setup with LED supplements about a month ago and I was amazed at how fast the color and growth started improve.

Did you do anything to rectify the burnt tips?

Looking good man! All you need is a pack of gel filters now so you can really show off those colors!

Love the wide open look, beautiful setup.

Yeah. I'll get on that. Maintenance day today so I'll take some and post them up tomorrow.

I lied. Here's a few. My new phone takes way better pics that the last so didn't need to break out the slr.

Love your aquascapes.... The Atoll reef style looks great, although you may suffer siphon sand clean at the center part when coral grow too big, but school fish will love it.
I have similar design but not as good as yours on creating different layer view. good work!!!

Man. Im sure this tank is about the crash. In the last month things have been growing like crazy. Its looking the best it has since set up. The growth rate is kinda nuts and the colors im getting are fantastic.

I did lose my flame angle unfortunately. She will be missed by me and the family. However, acans and sps wont. While color and growth were never effected, polyp extension was. It has icreased greatly since her demise.

It troed to take pics from the same spot as the last batch for comparison.

Everything is looking great. The short aquascape with lots of twists is perfect for a peninsula. I think the key to a great peninsula scape is to make it look completely different from each side.

Wow. Been a while since I posted. The tank has been chugging along nicely. Amazing what happens when you just keep your hands out of the water and stop tinkering with things. Im glad I took the time to set this tank up to take care if itself other than routine equipment maintenance. Its made the hobby much more enjoyable. All I really have to do is feed, clean the glass once a week and make sure my ato and nsw reservoirs are ok. It was all worth the money and time.
