I took a bunch of pics tonight to save my sanity as I'm trying to study for an animal nutrition exam that I have tomorrow. Please excuse the algae, I'm doing water changes twice a week and while it's going away, it's not gone yet :(

Electric Strawberries

Purple Death (one of 5 polyps I think...this one got lost for a while :( )

Some sort of people eater
PE.jpg

PPRPE excreting some excess waste. Hopefully these two polyps will start growing for me now that I'm doing more water changes.

Another type of PE

Variable stars...these guys have started majorly growing since my twice weekly water changes.

These guys are doing extremely well for me and have grown several new polyps lately

These are my "Mizzou" zoas, they're about as close to black as I can get.

Pink Elephants

Weird pink skirted zoas

Puny red wines which seem to hate my tank no matter what :(
redwines.jpg

FINICKY red zoas

Strawberry wines, some of which are sporting a white center for some reason, I'm thinking extra light.

One below the mother colony who is getting less light

What I think is an Aquarium City Red Mille...I'd have to look up lineage to be sure

Oregon Tort

Rainbow Monti (one of my favorites)

Sunset Monti (growth has taken off in the past few months)

Superman Monti (same as with sunset)

Superman Digitata (intentionally weird focus so that you can see the blue encrustation)

Undata

Now all I need is a Setosa... :D

Looks like some major bucks of high-end corals.

Great pictures as always, thanks for sharing!

Unreal !

Nice stuff and excellent pics of the nice stuff. I will bet you have posted this a 100 times but what camera and lens are you using? I am looking to toss the film SLR and get a digital. Any recommendations? I have a Canon EOS 2000 and at least one nice multipurpose lens but would for sure want to get a nice macro.

Faz

Sorry to hijack the thread...

Thanks for the compliments! :)

I am using a Canon digital rebel XTi and a Canon ultrasonic 1:2.8 100mm macro lens. IMO the lens is what's doing the job, I've got two other lenses and while they're good for other things they suck at macros ;) That being said, the macro lens is good for only that...macro shots. To get pics of anything that would normally be five feet from you you've got to get 10' away from the object.

The Digital SLRs take a lot of getting used to, for about the first week or so I hated mine, I was used to a digital point and shoot.

Pics look good, but the algea looks nasty. Is the deltec not holding up?

chelsey

do you have the 18-55 kit lens?

my buddy has that same camera and loves the kit lens for macros

would you say you disagree?

I do have the 18-55, and it will work, but it is NOTHING compared to the macro lens. I like really getting in close and you just can't do that with the 18-55.

Nope, none yet, I'd like to wait until I have decent colonies of each before I frag...I like the look of grown out tanks :)

Great shots! I have a couple questions though. What temperature of lighting is on your tank? I am having a hard time getting the white balance adjusted for my 14K's. I have a Canon 40d and i think it has the same OS as the XTi. I can only adjust up to 10K, any suggestions?

twice weekly water changes??
I guess if you got the time / If you really wanted to you could go with one a week and then come over and do mine!!

Pics look great!

I'm running T-5s so I couldn't tell you an exact temp, but if I had to guess I'd say somewhere around 10-12K. To be completely honest with you I never mess with the white balance. If I do it's in a photo editing program, but a rarely need to do much. I know that with the XTi it has a completely manual setting where you can set your own white balance, you might want to try that with your 40d.

If you had the algae issues that I do you'd be making time for twice weekly water changes ;)

How many lights you running, and what size?

switching mine tank to 8 x 54watt, hoping this weekend.

6 lights, 36", 4 lights are on most of the day, the other two are on probably 3 hrs a day.
