Tonynlo's 90 Gallon

So for the past 2 years, I have basically had a FOWLR, with the intention of starting a reef. I had been working on buying a house, new job and numerous other life issues that prevented me from "living the dream". My pictures will be taken from an iPhone 3GS for the time being, until I purchase something halfway decent. I'm considering this a restart and will call this Day 1. Just added some marco rock today, so there is a very cool looking purple and white contrast between the pieces.

Sand bed needs to be cleaned up a bit. The dirty places are from where the rock originally was.

Here are some of my corals. The pictures are out of date and poor quality.

This colony of, what I am told are "Whammin Watermelons" started off as 3 polyps and is now a colony of 300-350. I don't care much for the funky "street names" on zoanthids. This was the first coral I had purchased.

I thought this rock was pretty cool looking in the store, they had a really nice pink coloring. Little did I know, they wouldn't look like that in my tank. Another beginner mistake. Still, it wasn't an expensive purchase and it's cool looing at the same time.

This is the second coral I purchased. I was looking for some easy to keep blue coral. I think I hit the jackpot with these. The coloring is beautiful. This was purchased as 2 polyps and is now about 100 strong (the picture is very old).

My first attempt at fragging zoo's. I think I did well.

Watermelon Chalice - RIP
This guy I found face down in my substrate. When I pulled it out, it was dead.

Blue clove polyps. These are my girlfriend's favorite, we had been looking for them ever since we decided to start the fish tank. A few weeks back, I found them at Pet World.
I don't know what the hitchhiker is. It resembles a candy, but I'm no expert.

I found a guy on craigslist that was breaking down his tank, due to a reaction he was having when saltwater hit his hand. His tank was covered with this torch. They started as a hitchhiker on his rock and grew so muich that his tank was covered with them. He probably had about 300 heads total. I had never seen anything like it. Super nice guy. He sold me a few great pieces of torch and some hammers.

Looks like you got a good plan going.Im a euphllia addict myself ,probably my favorite as coral goes.
I did the exact same thing in starting with 2 polyp frags for zoas & palys as you ,dont know if mine have done as well as yours have but I haven't lost any ,so Im happy with that.

I'd wish you luck but it seams like you have the knack for all the stuff you already have.Lol. Good luck anyway with your progress, looks good-steve

Thanks for the feedback. I'm picking up A few pieces tomorrow afternoon. I'm thinking of ditching the large colony of zoas and one of the torches to trade for something else.

I picked up a nice brain from Caribbean Forest last week, I'll post a picture if it in my tank when my new light arrives and I'm not forced to take blue pictures. Here is what it looked like in the bag.

Also picked up some some certified captive grown blastos from Live Aquaria.

I was looking into the tank last night and noticed a red feather duster looking creature.

This toadstool, I also purchased from live aquaria, had what I am told is seamat hitch hiking on it. Adds a nice effect to the rock it's currently growing on. It was shedding in this picture so there are no polyps. Now it's opened about twice of what it looks like in this picture.

As far as fish go, I currently have two clowns - 1 true perc and 1 onyx perc. 1 tailspot blenny, 1 yellow tang, 1 diamond goby and 4 green chromis. I will be adding 1 more fish, probably a dwarf angel.

Feedings consist of rods original 3 days a week and I have been using what is left over from instant ocean flake. I plan to try a pellet, but would like to hear suggestions before I switch. Corals are given a bit of coral frenzy 3 times a week during the night, about 2 hours after my lights are out.

I look forward to posting more pictures of my tank.

Ha! yeah, I remember you posting that pic now.Yep seamat.Blastos are another I like alot Ive managed to obtain a few of them.Nice corals but man there such slow growers for me.Though they do seam to grow alittle better feeding small pieces of shrimp once a week or so.

Toadstool is probably my fav of softies nice to see its growing well for you, mine just stood neutral for over a year ,then suddenly 6 months ago took off.

good choice in coral selection.

Pellet wise ,Ive only used new life spectrums thera+ A for small fish.I tried the medium and mine wouldn't take it well as if it was to big.

I got the suggestion from reading others threads here,I know Gary M said it was good ,thats about all I know about it.

I bought a new light. ATI sunpower 6x54. I also picked up a few nice pieces of coral. I still need to touch up the back glass from a mag float chipping the paint off. Any suggestions? I was thinking a small roller with an oil based paint.

Here are a few pics.
