Too many fish?

I have a Red Sea reefer 250(54 gal) with 4 clowns, melanurus wrasse and laboutie wrasse(coming out of qt to go in dt). Want to add a flame wrasse with a female. Would that be to many fish? Am I pushing the limit in that size tank?

Yes too many......... you should give me the Flame Wrasse to hold for you. LOL!
IMO, I think you should be fine, I'm not sure about the Labout's and the Flames though. There may be some trouble.

What are the dimensions of the tank? Ideally for those Wrasses you would have 4' long by 18" wide. They are very active, and will use all of that room. The C. laboutie can be on the aggressive side. An acclimation box will be a must if you do add any more Wrasses.

Finally, I would personally just get one female when getting Fairy Wrasses. The single female will almost always turn male, just as it would if you got a pair. They are much less expensive, and they are usually juvenile, so you know you will have them for a few years. When you buy a male, it could be on its last year or two when you buy it.

I think I am going to remove one pair of clowns to another tank. They have been getting along for a long time but you are probably right about them getting aggressive toward each other.
