My sis in-law in Florida got the saltwater bug after visiting and seeing our tanks. She has a 55g with about 50lbs of LR and the following stock list. I told her to hold off until I checked here to see if it was too much or would be okay.
2 pink skunks
carpenter wrasse
yellow wrasse
coral beauty
firefish
shrimp goby
2 pj cardinals
mandarin after tank is established
cleaner shrimp
brittle star
cleanup crew

She has a good skimmer and the same HOB emperor 300 filter I have. How close can she get to this list? Thanks.

I would have to say yes this might be a tad bit extreme for a 55g, especially for a NEWBIE. JMHO. I made the mistake on my first 46 gallon bow of overstocking. However, it was a valuable learning experience..

I have a 54. My fish list is below, which has some of the same elements: Mr. Tang is here only on loan and he is going back next week, because his size has terrified many of my small fish like the firefish. THe skunk clowns are least aggressive of the clowns. But I'd say your yellow wrasse is going to be pushing it: the carpenter's, while a wrasse, is pretty laid back. The yellow can be a PITA in close quarters. THe cardinals are themselves pretty big, and given your other pair, the clowns, and the angel, that's just a lot of bioload. If you yearn for a yellow fish, consider the yellow watchman and you'll have a yellow fish and a very great character of a shrimp goby in one. I do support a mandy in a 54, but she's about as small as they come: don't get a supersized one, just the tiniest you can find and have lots of live rock and you'll do fine after your tank has settled down to maturity. Otherwise you can go broke buying pods off the internet, at 60.00 a month.

It may be fine but you are going to have to test test test and stay on top of it almost daily. With that kind of load when the numbers start to go they will go fast...........
