I've got a Hammer Coral that was given to me and I'm becoming concerned that it may be getting too much flow. My tank is a 6 X 2 X 2 180 with the coral sitting on the bottom at the far right side. There are two Tunze 6105s mounted approximately 18" above and another at the far end. I also have a Vortech MP40 at the far end of the tank that's set to Reef Crest and is blowing along the rear wall behind the rocks. Tank is predominantly SPS and this is the only coral that I'm having trouble with.
The coral has two heads and really blooms when the lights are on but I'm concerned that it may be getting too much flow because it appears that the smaller head is receding ever so slowly. It looks like the base of the head is slowly receding up the side of the skeleton. I would move it from its current location to a more protected area of the tank but I'm worried that its sweeper tentacles will sting other established corals. I'm just about to the point of giving this thing to someone who's tank is more likely to make it happy so let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Mike
