Too Much Light For S. Haddoni?

Is it possible to have too much light for a haddoni carpet anemone? How much light is enough, how much is too much and how much is too little? I've heard many different opinions. Also what spectrum do you think they like the best? What are some of the issues associated with too much lighting? All opinions are welcome.

This is my wifes hadoni. At first we had it under PC 50/50 lighting then added 2 4' 40w actinics, then added a 175w 10K MH. It did fine under all these different lights. It has grown allot, but I don't know if its because of the increased lighting or all the food it gets. Maybe both. If you ask me they don't seem as picky as others when it comes to light.

Well my problem is maybe I have too much light. I have about 17.25W/gal of 10k MH's and its a really shallow tank. Its mainly a sps frag tank which I'm using for a temp home for a haddoni. I've heard they like PC/VHO/T-5 lights and blue 20K MH's, but seem to not do well under brighter lights. Don't get me wrong I have kept many kinds of anemones under MH's and many under just PC's, just nothing this strong.

Nice haddoni by the way. :eek2:

Two carpets here under 400Wx2 10k in a standard 90G. No problems.

I would not, however, place a carpet in SPS prop tank. One day you will wake up to see no SPSs left.

Thanks. .:D
Wow, thats allot of light. I think you may be right. That could be to much for a hadoni. Is there a way you could shade part of the tank or something? I bet your sps's are growing like weeds though.

In a tall tank like a 90g I can understand, but in a 12'' high tank?

I completely understand both our concern here for separating anemones from sps, but I assure you there is no way for the anemone to wander around. Its in a tupperware container and will soon be covered with a large-holed mesh screen to ensure there is no way possible for it to move around the tank. It will only be in there temporarily for about 2 weeks until I find a way to move another anemone and some rocks in my anemone tank. About the waste produced from the anemone I will only feed it sparingly since its getting lots of light and feed small amounts so the resulting waste produced will be small and manageable for my tank.

And yes my sps are now growing like weeds, especially the staghorns, but I'm still getting the hang of sps and they are still tiny compared to some of the pics you see in the sps forum.

I have tried shading the anemone with eggcrate and screen which has seemed to help it this morning after I was scared that it was expelling its stomach because of too much light, but it turned out to be just a very large white piece of food. I did put back in a 20K bulb overtop of the anemone too just to make sure too.
