Too much light?

Is too much light possible? I have a 55g reef tank that currently has no coral, just a ton of coraline covered rock and a few fish. Tank has been up for a long time. It's definitely stable that's not even a question. I want to get sps and some clams in this tank. Is 500watts of metal halide and 260watts of actinics too much? Would they heat up the tank too much? I have a 30g sump and 20g clam tank all plumbed together with this tank. Thanks in advance.

IMO you might want to scale that back a bit there buddy.

I don't even thing you can fit all of that over a 55g can you? "lol"

It it were me I'd look at doing the dual 250's and then adding some T5, or VHO atnic, but I'd have my MH bulbs be around 14 to 15K so the atnics do not run at the same time as the MH's but before and after.

JMO not that I know much.

760w of light on a 55g tank is definetly going to cause some heat issues without some significant fan placements. IMO.

You could fit a 1000w halide over a 10g if you wanted to

Dude, a pair of 150 watt halides would be enough light to keep SPS in a tank thats 18" deep, what you are thinking would be over kill. A pair of 150/175 watt halides and a pair of 54 watt T5's and you should be good to go.

I thought it would be overkill, I just saw someone post that light on here and it was on sale for a sick price so I thought I would just jump on it. As far as it fitting I was goin to hang it from the ceiling. I guess I'll just stick with my pcs and get some softies for now

I had a pair of 10000k 250 watt de halides over a 75 gallon (same height) and everything did fine. Did have to use a fan though. Actinics don't add too much par.

I have a 250W de halide (24" deep) no problems keeping SPS.... You probably are over killing it with light I would scale back a little!

the only reason I was goin with this light is because of the price, anything with 150 watt mh is around double what this fixture costs. oh well
