Too much stress for one Tang to take?

Last night I got home with two Tangs a local guy sold me for $65.00 (a Yellow and Hippo). After acclimating them for almost 2 hours I netted them and placed them in the tank. The Yellow Tang slid out of the net and began calmly swimming around, but when I released the Hippo, his whatchamacallit (the sharp bone near the tail that they defend themselves with) got snagged in the net on both sides.

I tried to unsnag him and it seemed like a really stressful situation for him. Finally I scooped him back inside the net, placed him back in the container, and worked the net loose. Then I used a 1 gallon pitcher to get him out (again, a bit of a fight) and put him in the tank. He immediately hid (the lights were out and remain so as of 6:30 this morning) and I haven't seen him since.

I know they're shy and I know they "play dead" when they're in a stressful situation and I fully expect to see him later this morning when the sun is up and the lights are on, but in case anyone sees this before then, do you think what happened may have stressed him to the point of, dare I say it, ich?

He's 5" and an adult, not a juvie. Anyway, all responses are welcomed! btw, I have a 180 gallon FOWLR with only a juvenile Niger Trigger in there before I added the Tangs. Tank was cycled, water parameters perfect.

Tangs are fairly pretty durable fish, they can take alot. The Hippo might end up hiding for a few days until you acyually see him. They tend to work themselves intight places to hide.
Ich is always a possibility, but you wont see it for days or even a week or more. It all depends on the fish.
You could start to ad garlic to the food during feeding time to help boost there immune system, this will give you a head start on the disease if it does show up.

Nevermind. Both fish are out swimming around and eating up a storm, with nary a mark on them. But thanks for all the responses!

btw, I have a Niger Trigger (juvenile) in the tank as well, so I guess shrimp of any kind is out of the question, even though he is really timid and shy right now.

That's too bad. I think my skunks are my favorite animal in my tank right now.

My tang was similarly wierded out when I got him. Wouldn't come out of his hole for about a day, then would just swim head on into the side of the tank, up and down, up and down. It wasn't 'til I first fed the tank after getting him that he calmed down, stayed normal ever after.

Get a couple of skunk cleaner shrimp. Best ich prevention/treatment out there, and they're pretty neat too.

Cleaner shrimp are great, but no help when your tank is infested with ich..best prevention is a good 4 weeks in quarentine. If your fish have ich, you can treat them before they are introduced to your main display
