Topoff Pump Suggestion Needed

I need to purchase a pump to topoff my new system I'm setting up.

I have a Reef Keeper Elite and their Double Float switch that will control everything.

The topoff water will be within 5 feet of sump.

What pump would you recommend?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill,

How fast / slow do you want it to fill? This could make the difference between using something really slow like a peristaltic dosing pump, or going over to a Maxi-jet powerhead.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I was looking for something similar to when I had a Tunze Osmolator. I didnt know if that pump could work somehow with the ReefKeeper Elite.

Bill,

I do not know of a way to hook that pump up other than finding the correct power supply for it that Tunze uses, and then just plugging it directly into an outlet with the Reefkeeper unit.

What about using a cheap Maxi-jet powerhead?

Thats what I was thinking. It would have to pump up about 3 feet and than another 2-3 feet over. Can a Maxi-jet handle that?

What do you think of the Mini-jets as an option, specifically the Mini-Jet 606

or even the Maxi-jet 900 utility pumps?

I would pass on the Mini-jet, I just don't think it would be the best choice for you. The 900 utility pump would work well, as would the MJ900 or MJ1200. The nice thing about the 900 utility is that it comes with a flow control valve on it, which is nice to have "just in case."

If you're dosing kalk through this, then look at the Aqualifter like Scott recommended, or a peristaltic pump.
