Torch coral help

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
Ok I have a large frog spon and a hammer that have done great for a long time. I got this other torch coral with about 7 heads and have had it for months. It hasn't grown and hasn't fully extended ever. I have neve had problems with this type of coral. What can I try?

I'm not a newbie I do very well keeping sps for years but I dont do much of an LPS. This is not in high flow area. I have tried it in lower light and in higher lighting no change with the coral no matter where I place it. Any other help would be great.

Tank parameters r all good growing sps like crazy so I don't believe it to be water quality. I have tried to spot feed it baby mysids but it won't grab them. I normally don't feed them they just catch what ever is floating in the water during feeding time.

Roger

Thanks

Ok ca n I dip it? What do i dip it in? I don't know much about LPS pest control. Sps yes but not LPS? If that's the case dose it move to different LPS? Cause the others r all doing fine.

that happened to me a lot when i started with lps in my sps tank. It seems that they dont like it here is what helped me.

It may be stressed:
iodine dip will help alot. tupperware 3 cups of tank water 4 drops of iodine 6-7 if you see a parasite

it may have too much flow, your sps need it, lps not really. they just need eough so they can feed at night. put it in a low flow area, see if it extends more.

lighting, too much light - i had this problem, it was too bright aparently that it didnt like to extend much. (tissue damage protection maybe?) just place it further down in a crevice or shady spot. you can then acclimate it slowly back up to where it was.

obv. water parameters need to be right. i dont know anything about your tank. but alk is better kept around 9. (for me at least)

once it opens up nice you can target feed it with some brine shrimp or something like that. (defrost brine, filter them out pipete and squirt it right in the mouth area) they love that. Dont overfeed, it can stress them a lot!

good luck

ya really hard to tell what is going on, perhaps it is getting stung.

but he did say he already moved it all around, waiting a few days in between moves, to low light low flow, etc.

All mine, love low light and low flow. People tell me use medium flow, but I think my view of medium flow is actually low flow to me.

Thanks I will try to dip it now. I will update in a few days

Since it was brought up

Alk 9
Ph 8.0-8.15
Cal 445
Po4 .00 Hanna
Nitrates 1 salifert
Temp 78.9-79.5

Can take a couple of weeks to adjust. Got the same problem with a new torch. One side fully extended the other, and not so much.
