torch coral not extending

Hi im new to lps I've recently got a torch coral that opened perfectly but now keeps some of its polyps completely retracted and others will only come out half wa. It's not in a high flow area and the water perameters are all better than acceptable any ideas would be apreciated.

How much light do you have over it and how close is the torch to the light. I don't think that is the issue as my torch seem to really like higher light. I know you said the coral is not in a high flow area but retracted euphyllia polyps are usually due to too much (or directional) flow.

Also, I know you said your parameters are good but listing them might help (including specific gravity).

Do you have a porcelain crab by chance?

I'm also new to lps and my first euphyllia almost died!
I thought that because my lighting was not that high (3 T5s and 1 T8 daylight) I placed him right up top. Bad idea....He opened up for the first day, then for the next few weeks, he wouldn't come out at all. I also had a small algae problem that turned big after introducing the new euphyllia and that algae grew all over the torch and he retracted further. Now he's just alive, and recovering.

I bought a hammer a week ago, and learning from my mistakes put him right on the bottom, and only had ONE purple actinic on for the entire daytime. He was fully open the next day, so I turned the daylight on, then over the next day turned the rest on and moved him up to the top over a week. He's happy and eats anything I give him.

Did you light aclcimate him? If you didn't then just switch on one light and place him at the bottom like I did.

(One other thing I realised is that my first euphyllia was put in a bag of water while my second was wrapped in wet paper. The first one didnt have any stress slime on it but my second one did. Does the slime act as some protection, preparing it for acclimation?)

Thank u all for the advice mine was under 3 t5 and 1 led but the t5s broke now its under 2 90cm led and 2 t8s all mixed colours however we found the torches problem my filefish was eating it so we took the fish back and I'm happy to say 5 out of the 6 heads survived and are now thriving. Just hope my new t5 get here soon cause my montipora going up and down a lot under the lower lighting. Thank u all so much
