torch or frogspawn host

I just got two small perculas, the smaller of the two is about the size of a dime. They are currently in a 10 gallon QT tank. I am concerned that when I introduce them into the reef they will try to host my vary large frogspawn or torch. Is there any danger of them being eaten by the LPS?

I considered fragging the LPS and putting a piece in the QT tank to get the clowns familiar with LPS. I also considered buying a BTA but am not 100% sure on that right now, not much room for a roaming anemone in my tank.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

They may try to host in the frogspawn or torch, it has been known to happen. I have never heard of either one of those corals eating a fish though. That being said, if the fish were to host in either one it could (would) irritate the coral. Have you thought about introducing a "host" while the fish are in quarantine? A flowerpot base or plastic plate or something?

Good luck.

Garrett.

both my clowns host in a frogspawn and a hammer. Have been for well over a yr. with no damage to either coral. Before that, they would use a hairy mushroom as a host and no damage there either.

I have had clowns host in LPS for nearly 9 years. The only one that ever did damage was a 6 inch maroon female. She just loved here hammer coral a little too much...

As for being eaten, watch mushrooms especially the elephant ear variety. I lost my Onyx pair to one of these. Nothing else that I have owned seems to both or is bothered by small clowns.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will not worry about the clowns, hopefully they will host the torch... I am still going to try to wait a month or two for them to get bigger but it will not be easy!

Make sure you cover up the intakes on any powerheads you have. I had a juv. Ocellaris clown about the size you describe and he was too small to overcome the intake :( . I now use prefilters on all my powerheads, especially since I have anemones.

My clownfish has hosted my torch coral for the past 6 months, before the torch he hosted a fox coral, no harm to either coral.
