Torn- Maroon or 2 ocellaris

Hey guys, I am downgrading since I am moving from two 29g tanks to one 12g nano cube. Right now I have a gold-striped maroon clown and a sixline wrasse in one tank an 2 ocellaris and a purple firefish in the other tank.

I am torn as to which fish I am going to keep :(

I really would love to keep the maroon clown (which I affectionately refer to as Todd) that I've had for 3 years since I began the hobby but he would be a bully in such a small tank with any other fish so he'd be a loner.

The other option is to put the two ocellaris in the tank and maybe the purple firefish also.

I wish I didn't get so emotional with my fish, I'd hate to abandon Todd after he's been through so much over the past few years and stuck through it all. :(

BTW Todd is the little guy swimming in my avatar :)

Here are the two tanks right now. I'm going to be getting rid of all of the equipment and much of the live rock if anyone is interested please PM me.

i had a maroon, named sammy, in my 20G. when i first set it up, she was too agressive for even a tank that big. plus getting her a mate would be money and effort best spent other places. it really broke my heart too, so i know how you feel. seeing my fat nice looking maroon back at my LFS, i hope she got a nice home :) . go with 2 smaller clowns.

Go with the maroon and the 6 line. My favorite clowns are the maroons. Even though they are agressive they have the most personality.

I think a 12g would be too small for a maroon clown. I think the minimum for them is 20g. I had a 24g AP set up, and wanted a maroon clown, but I think even that was too small for an adult maroon.

I'd go with the 2 ocellaris and the purple firefish, although thats a large bioload for such a small tank, just be sure to keep up on water changes.

Also, PM Sent :)

maroons are beautiful clowns and so vibrant in color but they are evil incarnet, I would go with the oc clowns, In a 12 gallon I dont think i would add much more than just the two clowns, the firefish might make the territory just to cramped

Yeah maroons are nice, but they get BIG and are fighters, If you can get two small oc they wll stay small for a long while before one dominates and shifts sex. Even then they will be small compared to a full grown maroon and no where near as mean.

Well Todd the maroon is pretty small, just kind of fat and he is a surviver. He's been through several nuclear wars in my tank over the past 3 years and stuck with me throughout it all. As far as being in a small tank, well he is not much bigger than the two ocellaris clowns and over the past three years hasn't gotten too much bigger than when he was a baby. He is only maybe 1.5 times the size of when I got him. He hosts a hammer coral right now so he doesn't swim around at all and need swimming room. Here are some better pics of Todd, first when he was a baby, then one from about 6 months ago and one i took right now :) And yes I have been told he is actually a SHE but its ok lol.
