tornado hit my block, may need a hand

I think I'm set with the offers out there now, I'm heading back to the command post to try to sneak a look at the power gameplan, will let you all know later........

Hang in there,
I know it's a late offer, but my tank is your tank as well - if there's anything we can do, please let us know.

I was up with my storm-phobic dogs watching the weather... sounds like a nightmare.

Danielle

i'd have to say last night was a nasty storm...at 4:45am...either a bomb went off outside or it was one loud boom of thunder...I've never woken up from a storm before and I woke up last night twice! Good luck with your tank!

If you run into trouble let me know - we are in Windermere 429/535 area.
I've got a couple deep cycle batteries and an inverter....
As well as a Honda Generator with a DC coil to keep the batteries charged.

Nick

If you have the gas, just run the generator 24/7. They can handle it, AFAIK they are made for continuous duty and get plenty of rest between storms :D If the oil is not fresh, you might want to change the oil after a few days (if it goes that long).

Damn bryan, I just woke up and saw the news and then your post. Glad you are alright. I dont know that I have any info, space, advice or anything else useful. But am glad you made it ok. What a mess.

14 dead as storms sweep through Fla.

By JIM ELLIS, Associated Press Writer 2 minutes ago

Storms blew through central Florida early Friday, killing at least 14 people, flattening dozens of homes and a church and lifting a tractor trailer into the air, authorities said.

At least one tornado touched down.

Lake County spokesman Christopher Patton confirmed the 14 deaths, 11 in Paisley and three in Lady Lake, both towns in Lake County about 50 miles northwest of Orlando. No further details were available.

Gov. Charlie Crist declared a state of emergency for Volusia, Sumter, Lake and Seminole counties.

"Our priority today is search and rescue," Crist told reporters in Tallahassee.

Dozens of mobile homes near Lady Lake were destroyed by the storms that hit in the middle of the night. Chairs, beds and clothes were strewn about yards, with debris hanging from trees. Some homes were tossed from their foundations, while others had their roofs ripped off.

"The most dangerous tornado scenario is a threat for killer tornadoes at night, and that was the case," said Dave Sharp, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Melbourne.

The Lady Lake Church of God was demolished, its pews, altar and Bibles left in a jumbled mess. The 31-year-old, steel-reinforced structure was built to withstand 150-mph winds, the Rev. Larry Lynn said.

By daybreak, parishioners gathered amid the ruins, hugging each other and consoling Lynn. They planned to clear the debris and hold Sunday services on the empty lot.

"That's just the building. The people are the church. We'll be back bigger and stronger," Lynn said.

The storms moved across Sumter and Lake counties around 3:15 a.m., then moved to Volusia County, where 69 homes and a county medical clinic were damaged, authorities said.

In The Villages retirement community, Lee Shaver said he shielded his wife Irene with his body while huddling in a closet as the roof peeled off their home. Fence posts launched as projectiles were embedded into the wall of their home, Irene Shaver said.

"Every muscle and bone in my body shook," said Lee Shaver, 54. "We don't know what to do. We have no cell phones, wallets, IDs."

At least five crashes took place within a quarter mile of each other near Interstate 4's New Smyrna Beach exit, closing the highway for about three hours.

In one case, a semitrailer was lifted up and landed on another semi, pinning the driver in his cab, said Kim Miller, a spokeswoman with the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver did not suffer life-threatening injuries, she said.

About 20,000 customers were without power across a wide swath of central Florida, Progress Energy spokeswoman Cherie Jacobs said.

The state Emergency Operations Center was activated, said Mike Stone, spokesman at the state's Department of Emergency Management.

Brian,

I'm in Ormond and my 125 is still up and running with nothing in it. It's all yours if you need, just don't have any lights on it.

I have a generator in the garage you're welcome to borrow also.

I'm on the west edge of Winter Park, and other than a lot of rain and lightning, the area was spared what happened to the north.

Hey guys I hope everyone is okay~! I am near UCF and have power and room in my 55 if anyone needs a fish sitter - i have 2 clowns, a foxface and a blenny but lots of room otherwise if anyone with damage needs a temporary stay in case your generators and what not aren't going to be enough.

My prayers go out to you and your families and communities. My folks over in clermont just missed the bad stuff :( This is so sad it is like hurricane season over and over again :(

Any through Winter Park, FL?? My grandma is alone down there...

I am just south of winter park downtown and my parents live on the eastern edge. Nothing either place and no reports on the news so I am guessing she is fine.

Brian I can figure something out at the store as well. I have those long 20 gallon tanks that I can setup with temporary filtration if needed. Just let me know if it's needed so I can get the staff going on setting them up as they are empty at this point. I also have a couple extra bubblers you can borrow and some extra batteries I could give you. Glad you are fine though.

Carole...thanks for calling. It was bad here but we escaped the worst of it. Lots of downed trees and limbs...the pool is FULL of them but the house and the cars seem to have escaped damage, although I think, from the sounds of things early this morning, some of my neighbors didn't fair as well. I am going to check on some elderly neighbors that I try to keep tabs on when stuff like this happens and then will be in the shop about 2-3 pm if anyone needs help.

Man Brian, i am sorry that happened to you guys, we saw a small funnel cloud, but it never touched ground, it was kinda cool though..... If there is anything other than tanks that you need, i will do my best to try to help you out. I am one to beleive that everythignhas a purpose, and if you think positively about it, things will be better for you guys. Well, i hope everything works out for you

marcye, thank you much I think we will be ok at this point. there is power restored to within 3 blocks of me and I was told there are crews working as we speak. where runningthe generator right now and if power is not back by 5ish I will snag all coral and head to jacks place, whatever fish I can catch easily will relocate as well but the harder ones to catch will stay on the bubbler generator routine. I'm thinking itwould be better to not stress the hard to get critters. I'm heading back out to the mess for search duty, will check in when I can. thanks again
