I called up ORA and asked this very question. I spoke with Todd and he did confirm that the ORA Oregon Tort can turn green. I also now have a mini colony of the True Oregon Tort. Two completely different corals. I'll post some pics once the colony gets settled in.

What's an OBT?
It was sold to me as a Shawn Bennet Yellow Tort. He said it would be green in a system with less light and more yellow under high lighting. Maybe I got ripped off, but I don't know why he would lie to me since I really didn't care what it was called. It was at a frag swap, so I assumed he was reputable.

I never said it was a blue tort?? The thread title asks for pictures of torts, but never specified that they had to be Oregon Blue?

You are absolutely correct lol a beautiful tort at that. I was going off the last few threads distinguishing between Cali torts and blue torts and them yours popped up. I assumed that you were adding it to the mix as a blue tort lol clearly not sorry for the mix up lmao

No problem. After I typed out that response, I looked again to make sure I wasn't crazy and indeed, most of the thread was revolving around the Oregon Blue Tort.

Why would you not be able to get sps to turn blue under LEDs ?
Just asking not trying to debate here. The reason I ask is because I have LEDs.

That is true, but I think you need to add a slight caveat:
I may be the fella that was mentioned as having seen OBT not survive under LEDs. I'm not saying it can't be done, just that the local reefers that bought from me and had LEDs all lost their frags. Recent research on lighting and acroporas has shown that the wavelength of lighting can dramatically alter the mix and growth rate of zooxanthellea clades so it's not hard for me to believe that the deep blue color of this particular coral may be dependent on UVL Super Actinics or Radiums and other light sources will therefore change it's success and or color, BUT that is simply a theory I have based on personal experience and should NOT stop anyone from "doing their own thing" !
Just for reference here are two posts from another older thread on the lineage of OBT.
I think perhaps there may be several variations of very similar corals out there all of which are quite spectacular. I personally subscribe to the Upscales story as I am an owner of one of the frags that came from them via Rick Soutas of ReefStuff.com which I purchased in 2003.

I am so sorry dude! I keep being plagued by behind the scenes "mini-tragedies". In this case the OBT piece I was planning on breaking up was growing well in my daughters new Nuvo 38 under T5, but I foolishly put a carpet anemone in there with a long spine urchin and the urchin knocked the OBT off and the carpet killed it good and quick. So now I'm back to my struggling main colonies and a VERY small but healthy colony in the basement. MY OBT is the slowest growing coral I have ever owned by far.
Believe me, when the day comes that I finally have some OBT frags again you will be the first person I contact for sure.

Ahahaha I just came upon this thread and your post just made me laugh so hard. That really sucks though... I have been considering switching to LEDs but I think I will try it on my frag tank first.

yah, i was looking for a little humor there. however, it is the sad truth about leds and sps's. imo, leds have a place in the Aquarium hobby just not in the niche of sps keepers. i look at it like this: you can survive on donuts, cigarettes, and soda; but i bet you won't win many Olympic Metals!
