4th and final dose goes in later today.

Be nice to finally do some water changes again. ;)

no water changes for a month? did you run lots of carbon instead?

Reefer,

1. How long did you leave the Levamisole in the tank before you did the water change? My limited experience with this (3 consecutive weeks) is that Levamisole did seem to take a little longer to kill them than Flatworm Exit (2 years ago). Since I didn't have a "bad" infestation, I didn't do my water change or start running the carbon until 48 hours after I dosed.

2. If you used Flatworm Exit a few weeks ago, you probably got rid of the bulk of your population then, hence the "blurred water." Sebsequent treatments will be killing those that the first treatment didn't get to (possibly deep in the rocks) or the first generation's babies.

Mine reacted immediately when I dosed and the water was tinted red with all the bodies floating around. I ran a full pound of carbon in one of my reactors once they seemed to be totally affected. I didn't do a water change at all until after the 3rd treatment.

You should see a much lower concentration after the first dose and less of them in the water column on the 2nd and 3rd doses.

They are almost back in full force in my system so I am preparing to do another round.

I ran carbon.

I always run a little carbon in most of my tanks anyway. In the very beginning of my war and peace 1st posting in 2nd experiment section I note that carbon was not taken offline in one of the test tanks.

Bottom line.

I do not expect nor think that leaving it in without water changes is the best route to go. The real question is how did I have the stones to try it anyway? I really wanted to push to see how far it could go. And secondly since the population was not that high I didn't think that the toxin issue would be there and felt there would be limited risk.

So, if you have a high population. Run your carbon, and change it every couple days and be prepared to do your 50% water change on the 1st dosage minimum. The later dosages should feel you need them or are a fail-safe overkill kinda guy (like me) then as you lower the population or insure against any tough ones or dormant offspring you can get away with no water changes and change out the carbon less as I did in my experiment without any problems.

ok first dose done 30 min ago. I had a red looking flat worm on one of my corals. they didn't fall off so after about 20 min I blow them off with a turkey baster. I did the 1/2 teaspoon for 240ml then dosed 1ml per gallon in the tank. I will dose the remainer of the 240ml tomorrow just because. then I will dose again in 7 days. so far the only reason the sps closed up was because I blew them with the baster. the snails look good and so dose everything else. I will keep you posted.

I used a MJ 600 and blow off all the rock so if anything was attached it would let go and go into the filter sock. I will change it before I go to bed around 11pm

One hour gone PH is dropping fast from 8.33 to 8.18 in one hour. I saw a baby star fish floating in the current no bugs as of yet. all snails are still attached to the glass or rock.

ok 2 hours in brital star sriveled up even more. calm still closed. all fish and sps still look good. I left one flat worm on a rock to see if it would fall off and die. he is still there and still looks alive.

3 hours in I turned the carbon back on. it is old carbon that needs be be changes. 3 1/2 hours in the clam and the star fish are open and moving again!!!

by the way the one flat worm that was on the rocks that I didn't blow off is still attached and moving :(

by the way I hope it was ok to add pictures to this thread. I know you really wanted to stay on topic but I thought it related to the topic.

well it has been 13 hours or so the water level in the skimmer droped to about half the chamber hight. the stuff that stuck to the side walls was the most black thick skim it has ever pulled. not sure why the skimmers water level droped. it has a gate valve an my skimmer water level never changes enless my hands go in the tank. last night I thought the level was low because my hands were in the tank to blow off the coral. when it was still low this morning then it must have been the treatment. I cleaned the skimmer and set it back up the the water level stayed low so I adjuested it.

well I dosed .03 this afternoon with the carbon off for about 1 hour then I turned it back on. The star fish was looking bad but the arms where extended and it was right side up. after the hour had past it looks dead :( everything else so far so good. I do have and urchine in the tank and no problems with him.

Thought you may want to stay up to date. well if you have Tangs you know they love nori. I have 4 tangs in my tank and I put a full sheet on the clip yesterday. I woke up this morning and not even one bit taken from it. they have lost there will to eat :( :( :(

I haven't feed the tank before this as I didn't want them to eat any of the poison, so they should be very hungry.

Roger

Roger,

Most of my fish wouldn't eat when the medication was in the tank also. After a water change and running the carbon, they all went back to their normal routine.

Does anyone know a source for the med. Nothing local or online I can find. Is the EPA hold a long term thing? Thanks Paul

They do not have it. Talked to PBS animal health today and they told me that some of the products with this main ingrediant have been on hold for over a year and they do not think it will be available again.

I liked blowing my rocks off with a small powerhead as well.
Just coming back here to post an update. I did the first treatment last weekend and kept the stuff in there for about 10 minutes before I did a water change. I have to say that I only saw 1 flatworm this week which I removed yesturday when I dosed my tank with levasole again. I think I am going to try a couple more weekends. Maybe one of these times I will just leave it there rather than do a w/c. When I did it this weekend I didn't suck out any worms. I am hoping this is the end of them.
Either way I plan on putting levasole in my tank a few more times just for safety.
