Total System Levasole Planaria Kill Recipe

So I tried to contact ink maker to order a few days ago, and never got a reply, so I found this and ordered today. http://subquaria.com/Levamisole-HCl-Powder -- received ship confirmation and then tracking number literally 10 min after ordering.

Still plan to make and dose as per the first post: 1/2 TSP in 240ml (8oz) of water. Dose 1 ml for each gallon of water.

I sent an on-line query asking about the dosage amounts and the owner replied. First though, he mentioned a 10% discount promo code: REEFCENT

Second, he acknowledged not knowing about saltwater reefs but said the dosage amount seemed real low. This is confirmed through out this thread to not follow fresh water dosing.

I also found these two links informative, probably more info than one cares to know about flatworms.

Look at item number four (4): http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/aquariummedication3.html

And; http://www.loaches.com/disease-treatment/levamisole-hydrochloride-1

A side note is I've had flatworms, planaria basically on and off the whole time I've had my reef. Recently I moved corals around, breaking apart some large colonies and... They're back. So after some research, found this thread which was the best concise method. Also, I would dose FWE in the past but never considered the egg/hatch timeframe. (Imagine the Homer Simpson's forehead-smacking D'oh) so I'll treat the whole cycle mentioned here.

I'll keep you all posted.

Levamisole came in yesterday. I had ordered 30 grams, and although the packaging and product looked professional, there wasn't a single marking to identify the weight.

So I pulled out the scale and weighted it since I have no clue what 30 grams looks like. Happy to report that it weighted in at 33 grams (includes packaging) so if you're in doubt, just know at least it was correct for me.

Not to bore you with details but I found from trial and error that the instructions here, did not work since the solution was too weak.

Instead of 1/2 TSP I put 1 full TSP into 240ml (8oz) of water. Dose 1 ml for each gallon of water. So my advice, is if you order from the link two posts up, you'll have to double the amount for it to be effective.

Took a normal TSP put it into the envelop of 30 grams and pushed it against the sides of the package while removing the spoon at an angle. Here is what a TSP full looks like. I had weighted the spoon empty (4.5 grams) and full as from the picture (8.5 grams) so there is nothing scientific about this, but know a TSP is about 4 grams. This may help you when deciding how much to order.

I mixed that into 8 oz (= 1 cup, 240ml, 1/4 liter) of RO/DI water.

I have a 72 gallon display, 40 gal sump, and 40 gallon frag tank so after the rocks and coral it's about 120 gal of 150 total gal.

I dosed 120 ml (1/2 cup total) into my display and frag sections.

flat worms reacted but after 15 min still saw some moving fast (for worms) on the glass so put another 30 ml. I don't know if that extra was needed, because after about an hour, I couldn't find any - anywhere. Before and during the dose - none were observed in my frag tank, and there wasn't nearly as many as I had seen in video's or other posts in my display. I think I caught this early since several hundred total is what I estimate. I tried to catch the dead ones with a net, but the fine white net I have was still to big as most passed right through.

Snails, 3 anemones, and LPS corals were none to happy (retracted) but shrimp and SPS didn't look phased at all. After one hour, I turned skimmer and carbon back on, and did a 35 gal water change. By the time the lights went out, everything looked more or less normal.

I plan to do a bit more research to find out how many and frequency to ensure I get any during the cycle, but my plan now is to dose weekly for the next 3 weeks to ensure I get them all this time, once and for all.

Bottom line is the product works, and is available as from the last few pages of this thread, that is one of the major issues - availability and where to get a product.

Good Luck everyone.

This hard to search on phone. How much do I need to buy for 240 gal total water system? Also any idea for shelf live on product?

First a general statement and one that is aligned with what's mentioned at the first post of this thread *** Never blindly trust anyone, always proceed with caution and do you own research. I just didn't go make a batch and dump it into my reef with $5K + worth of livestock. ***

There are two ways of looking at this: first (1), is how this thread is structured. Make a batch of consistent strength, and then dose 1 (one) ml per gallon of reef water volume you have. This makes adjusting to "how much do I dose for my XX gallons" easy and repeatable. So 50 gallons, dose 50 mil. 120 gallons, dose 120 mil. Simple as that. I used google search to convert ml to oz, google is your friend. Second (2), is a set weight of grams of the product for your specific reef, and it doesn't matter how much water you mix it in, just as long as it dissolves. The web site has a chart, but the amounts are for fresh water. They provide a spoon so although I personally like the first option better, you may want to use the second option. So based on what I just dosed, here is a recommended update: correct my math or logic here guys/gals, but since I dosed 4 grams in 8oz of water, at the end, had used 3/4 of it. I took 3/4 of 4 grams = 3 grams for 125 gallons. So I used 3 grams to at 125 gallons to be the benchmark calculation. This is a stronger receipt but it's what I honestly used. Adjust as needed per your situation. This is just a guide. With that in mind,

10 Gallons water volume 0.24 Grams
15 Gallons water volume 0.36 Grams
20 Gallons water volume 0.48 Grams
25 Gallons water volume 0.60 Grams
29 Gallons water volume 0.70 Grams
30 Gallons water volume 0.72 Grams
40 Gallons water volume 0.96 Grams
50 Gallons water volume 1.20 Grams
55 Gallons water volume 1.32 Grams
65 Gallons water volume 1.56 Grams
75 Gallons water volume 1.80 Grams
90 Gallons water volume 2.16 Grams
125 Gallons water volume 3.00 Grams
150 Gallons water volume 3.60 Grams
180 Gallons water volume 4.32 Grams
