Total System Levasole Planaria Kill Recipe

I found somewhere that would ship to Canada and will try to dose my system. I had none and all of sudden, thousands appreared. There is really too much to siphon them so I'll put 3 Aquaclear filled to the top with Activated Carbon (maybe 5lbs) to be sure to filter out the toxins. I'll see if I could get a 50G brute or something to prepare a big water change but I would think Carbon would do the job.

I added a Christmas Wrasse to the 65G and not only do I have a beautiful fish to look at, it appears to be clearing out the remaing flatworms.

Thanks to CleveYank for all the initial work on this! For the first time in a long time I think my systems are all flatworm free.

Well I dose my tank yesterday. I have been syphoning the flat worms out of my tank over the past month and not making any head-way. I did syphon them out yesterday before I dosed the tank. I have 2 tanks going into my sump. So I closed off the line and dosed the smaller tanks first. Thing when pretty well. I was suprised at how many worms were left. I did start running carbon after I syphoned out as many worms that I could see. Water change was just the syphon water.
Then I dosed my 75 with a 25 sump. Once again, I was suprised at the amount of worms.
I should say that I removed as many coral frags that I could and dosed them seperate. I then did another dip and blew off anything left on.
I did have one loss, a cleaner shrimp. I had 2 in the tank and one didn't seem to do well right after the treatment. He finally died a few hours later. Also, the only other criiters affected were my micro-stars. They crulled up and floated along in the tank. Today, they are back to normal. Even the pods in my fuge did fine.
It is nice to have a tank without the little red SOB. I plan to redose 1/2 strength in a few days and again 2-3 times over the next weeks.
Thanks again CleveYank,
Phil

WHERE CAN I BUY LEVAMOSOLE AT?

WHERE CAN I BUY LEVAMOSOLE AT?

I'm am sooooooooo frustrated! I've read this whole post and can't figure out where everyone is getting this stuff. Please be specific. I even called the manufacturer in europe and it has been discontinued. Is there a similar product or replacement that will do the same thing, there has to be, please hook up the fat kid in utah.

That is the problem. For some reason, it has been discontinued. I found mine by blind luck. I went to a TSC after I called them and asked if they had any (was told no) and there it was on the shelf. I have searched all over the web and no one has it. Sorry.

One thing i did find out that was helpful is: my syphoning was taking so much water that my water changes were to big and to costly. so this time after i syphoned out 2 5 gallon buckets insted of dumping the water down the toilet as usual, i realized all the FW imediately sunk down to the bottom and after about a 1/2 an hour the water cleared up and i poured 90% of the water back in my tank and dumped the bottom two inches of water down the toilet. Saved lots of water.

4th dose was just as boring as the third, no fw's spotted, coral and fish had no reaction... i'm gonna call it a victory.... now what to do with all of that levasole i have left over.. hee hee

If your tank has be flatworm free for 3 months you can claim a partial victory. I'd say you wait some more before claiming a full victory.

Speaking from experiance.

I'm sorry to say that my flatworms have become resilient to the medication. I'm up to double the dosage that used to kill all of them before very effectively, but now some can be found alive right away after the treatment.

Well last week I had a leak on my sump system, so I drained it out put new salt water in than had some plumbing to do today to put it back online.

I had received 100gram of HCL Levamisole and planed to treat it today and puting the sump back online (diluting).

So I put 1.5mL of Levamisole in some RODI (about 2ppm) and after 5 minutes I fired the carbon on the display (2x aquaclear) and put the sump back online.

Well in the 5 minutes flatworms were floating but puting the sump online was probably a mistake...

Either there was some old water in some ball valve that turned rancid or the PVC solvant made a mess....

Most fish appeared stress like hell, got 1 anthias that stuck himself between 2 rocks for 20minutes., my Foxface is stressed but swiming, most softies closed but are reopening, Clam is partialy open, shrimps are out of sight, bristle Stars look deads,

There wasn't that much flatworm in the water collum and the water didn't turn yellow so I think the problem was with the sump. Maybe there was Ammonia or H2S in it from the 1 week running only with new sand.

I have read this thread a couple of times. I have a question for you guys. The only stuff I can find is Levamisole Hydroclhoride USP grade powder. It is sold in 5 grams. Cas # 16595-80-5
ASSAY (DRIED BASIS) 98.5 - 101.0%
What would be the dosing recommendation for this product? How many gallons would this 5 grams treat? Thanks in advance

If you don't get any dosage info I'd suggest you solve these 5 grams up in around a liter of water and make tests on a few flatworms to find out the required dosage.

Put around 10 flatworms in another container with a litre of untreated saltwater, make sure to add a little of the medication mix at a time and not to overdose, waiting around half an hour before adding more untill you see the flatworms die.

In my case it's 30ml for every 1000 litres so it's extremely small amounts needed.

Just thought I'd throw my small experience in. I took my 65 gal cube offline today to buff out scratches (god I hate acrylic). I noticed a few FW survivors from a flatworm exit treatment of the whole system (300+ gal) a few months ago. Although the rest of the system seems free of the buggers, the cube is MH lit and they seem to produce faster in there. In any event, I threw the rock in a rubbermaid with about 15 gal of water. I could only find levasole pills at the local ag store, so I bought those. I threw three tablets in the rubbermaid, and voila, no more FW.

I meant this in no way to be an attempt to figure out dosage, so PLEASE no one take it that way. I was surprised to see, however, that the snails, hermits and copepods that remained on the rock during treatment appeared unaffected.

So far this stuff seems just as effective, if not more so, than FE.
