Total Wattage

I've read that the right wattage should be as fallows:
3-5 Watts per gallon - fish only
4-6 Watts"" - LPS
7-10 Watts "" - SPS

Now, is that total wattage of Halide with actinic and day light bulbs?
Example...
75 Gallon bowfront with SPS
525 - 750 Watts necesary, would a 2 x 250w 10k HQI, 4 x 54w T-5 HO.... all that adds up to 716 watts of light... 500 of metal halide and 216 of T5.

OR the only wattage that counts for the SPS is the Metal Halide one??

Sorry if I confuse you, I write as is on my brain.

Using 'total wattage or watts/gallon' to determine what you can and can't keep is quite a bit outdated. That wattage does not properly reflect a fixture/setup's ability to effectively put out light.
What are you looking to keep in your tank? If fish only, it really doesn't matter what lights you have as its more for you, they (the fish) just need to be to effectively see.
Corals are more particular, if you want to be able to keep about anything, either go with a couple 250w MH (actinic supplementation is up to you) or a 6 x 54w T5 high-quality setup, like ATI or Aquatinics or a retro setup.
