TOTM quality 6' SPS tank for under $1k? The 5.56 build thread; AKA a really bad idea

Maybe that rats nest under your tank is rusting? Check your impellers and magnets for rust. Does your alk fluctuate? Personally I don't think you have a nutrient issue. Tanks run fine at those n03 and po4 numbers.

No iron spikes so it's not rust and copper is in check so not wiring.

I test alk weekly and it does run a little high but have brought it down lately.

But have you checked all the impellers? What magnets do you use? Iron can get used up, but the other metals build up right?

You may want to run a sample of your source water through ICP testing as well.

What about a pest? I know a dip may stress the coral further, but maybe sacrificing one to the reef gods would rule out AEFW.

I would also dip just to make sure no aefw, that is exactly how my tank started. Everything was doing fine and then outta the blue sps where loosing tissue and dying over night. Only thing i changed to the tank where went from t5 to mh and my alk went up 1 point. I slowly let alk back down and was still loosing sps.

It’s not just acro’s

It’s monties and stylophora and digitada as well

My maxima is as happy as a clam though.

I’ll send out another ATI-ICP test today

The day I sent the first ATI-ICP did a 60 gallon WC with new salt (yes 60 gallons on a 150 gal system but really, the tank was circling the drain) added carbon and turned the skimmer back on in installed polyfilter.

Since then I did a 30 gallon WC and changed carbon twice.

I think some of my most recent losses can be attributed to all the carbon and I anticipated that collateral damage when I decided to run that much carbon. Polyfilter wasn’t showing any color changes and tests for iron, iodine, potassium, alk, ca, mg, and ammonium were coming up normal.

I think I mis understood your timeline. Do what you have to do sometimes. Did you send in an ICP test of your makeup water?

Ali also told me he was having issues with IO.

My RODI came back clean. Except for some silicon in it... which didn't show up in the tank sample.

I sent in another ICP test this morning. We'll see what's happening.

I still have 3 bags of IO, I'll prolly give it to a FOWLR person.
