Tough Day for a Clownfish

The other day my skimmer wasn't working properly, and when I took the pump apart I found one of my black and white clowns in the elbow (he was gone). He was paired up with a female for over a year, and they have hosted to an anemone. Should I get her another mate soon, or does it matter if I wait. In about 4 months I will be starting a large tank upgrade, and can get her a new mate then (might be closer to 6 months before I will get her and a new mate ready to go). Thanks for the input

It really doesn't matter when you grab her a new mate. She is still a female and will never become a male again. Now if it was the female that needs to be replace and you wanted the male to stay male then it would be crucial to add a larger clown with him as this will control his urge to change sex. You can grab a small clown now but get one around 1-1.5" if your female is 2"+. Good luck

i bought an expensive boy friend for my 3inch onyx female. with in minutes she had him in a pitbull bite! she then tollerated the juvie picasso for about 2months, then tried to kill it. i had to remove the juvie! but yours might not do that. buy a small juvie. and keep an eye on him. they'll figure it out! if not buy two juvies, one smaller than the other so the bigger one is more appealing, then when they bond remove the oddball!!
