toxic substances

if its a DSB with LR sitting on it, could be anaerobic/sulfer pockets, due to decay. other than that the only ones i know BTA's cant handle are the usual suspects. nitrite, nitrate, ammonia. hope that helps, REEF-ON!!!

A whole host of "terpenes", biological chemicals emitted by soft corals and anemones of different species with the sole aim of eradicating competing specimins. If your anemone is exposed to these terpenes to an excessive extent it can cause damage/death. Counteract by considering your stocking and utilise skimming/activated carbon to adsorb (ie neutralise the chemicals and to extract it somewhat via skimming).

Chlorine obviously, copper, excess iron etc. metals in excess are bad news, NB. heavy metals often found in untreated tap water (ie traces of Mercury and Lead). Just use a carbon filter or preferably an RO/DI unit to ensure that nothing adverse is in your source water. Nitrite and Ammonia need to be 0.
