TR gs maroons and RBTA hosting?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if there are any tips on how to get my gs maroons to host my rbta i purchased today? I was told that even if the maroons were TR, that they would still host the rbta cuz the rbta is the maroons natural host.

I'll take some pics tomorrow when the rbta is hopefully completely open! It's already grabbed ahold of the rock and hasn't moved yet in the last 3 hours.

I put my pair of GSM clowns from my old tank into my new tank with a RBTA and they went straight in. These guys have never seen an anenome their whole life since I to got them from a breeder and they are tank raised. I dont think you will have a problem.

GSMs will take to just about anything. Usually the problem is that they beat it to death before it has time to aclimate.

Hmm really? Mine r still pretty small maroons so I got one that was about 2 times the size of them. I'm hoping the rbta will open up fully tomorrow and my maroons will go into it.

I love it when people ask if there is anything you can do to get them to host a nem. It is a natural thing that clowns may or may not do. You can not force them to do it.

The clowns are still freaking out about being stuffed in a bag, hauled across town, and plunked into a new environment. Just give them time to chill out and they'll be in the anemone. They're probably in it as I type this.

nah, i actually had the 2 clowns in the tank already, then i added rbta yesterday... the clowns seem to be swimming around it but neither one has gone into it yet

Success! i got done studying calc and went to go look at the tank for some relaxing time and they were in there!

Now my worry is... is that anemone too small for the both of them? I've read that clowns can be really agressive in protecting their hosts but with them both allowing each other into the anemone, does it mean that they're some what ok with it? The anemone was a lot larger in the store yesterday. I got it from midwest coral farms.

Also, people weren't kidding when they said the maroons were rough with the anemones... mine are bickering in the anemone and stuff, will this end up killing the anemone?? Should i be looking into buying another bta? i'm thinking a gbta this time...

So It took about 24 hours or less. That's still probably the longest I've seen maroons resist a BTA.

BTA's are tough, but I'd keep an eye on things. If it starts showing signs of stress, I'd separate them until the anemone has some time to grow. It appears healthy, so I should take long for it to get large enough.

haha, i was getting worried that they weren't going to go in there at all after so many people saying it only took minutes.

I'm gonna try and feed it mysis shrimp tomorrow after i go to the lfs and hopfully find a feeding tube. The canopy makes it very hard to stick my hand in the tank now without taking it off...

+1. about 8 months I got 2 GSM Clowns from a LFS and an RBTA (in the process of splitting) from my local reef club. The clowns themselves were maybe 1" to 1.5" in length and my RBTA's after they split were about 2" in diameter. Luckily my GSM's at the time decided to each take one RBTA and then switch between them. Everytime I looked to see how things were doing they'd beat the RBTA till I walked off and watched them covertly.

Now I got 3 RBTA's about 6" in diameter and the GSM's are a mated pair that move between all 3 of their homes and vehemtly try to kill my hand every time I try to do maintenance, but I love em =). I love them so much I'm going to be giving them a bigger home here soon

so it's ok that they're rough on the nem? if the nem is helathy it should be fine? i'm gonna try and find one of those feeding prongs and go buy some frozen krill and selcon to soak it in

They're going to be rough on the nem. Just watch the nem and make sure they aren't stressing it too much. If it becomes stressed, might want to look for a way to separate them.

what are signs that the nem is taking too much? any good warning signs to tell me it should be seperated?

The signs I noticed out of the BTA's I've lost due to a Nem Killing Clown were:

1. Loss of stickiness
2. Detaching Foot to move away from aggravating source (moving around could be due to other reasons, but shouldn't detach it's foot from the rock)
3. Losing color

Now mind you I'm no expert at this, just my observations. I'm sure others could give better info.
