Trachy brain and gellatinous blob

This week we have managed to make our corals very unhappy with us.

We're actually trying to make things better for the tank as a whole by adding a sump to it. This week we moved our 30 gal to a new stand and added a sump to it.

We drained the tank to move it, but kept the water and put it right back in. The tank also went skimmer less for about 3 days. Obviously we increased our salt water volume when we added new water to the sump, and we've had our hands in the tank a lot more than usual re-working things like plumbing.

Tonight we got a skimmer running again (it's supposed to be better than the one we had on it), fed the tank, and were observing things. We noticed our trachy brain spitting out a gellatinous blob of something. It was mostly clear, but there was a little brown to it.

Does anyone know what that is? Is this a stress reaction to some of the changes we made? Is it just expelling waste? We've had the brain for a couple of years now, it's not a new addition.

We also noticed later that there's a very new area of recession (the only area of recession) at the base of the brain, like it's pulled in too much.

Any ideas? What's the best thing we can do for it?

Thank you!!

Did you mix the saltwater for a day before using it? Some corals are'nt too partial to 'newly mixed' SW. Have you tested all parameters? Not sure what the clear blob was...but I have seen them at the shop. I would think if it dropped its zooxanthallae, it would have been brown & stringy.

I thought zooxanthellae was brown and stringy too, so that makes me feel better - maybe it was just waste?

I'm pretty sure the sw sat for a little while, my husband takes care of that part. But we'd had water waiting so we could do a wc, but instead added it to the sump.

It was late last night, but I'll see if maybe he can run some water tests after church today. Maybe that will give us a clue.

The recession wasn't any worse this morning, I'm hoping when we turn the lights back on, we won't notice it.

Thanks!

Yw, I wish you luck. I always airate my sw for at least a day in a 40 gal brute w/ a powerhead before I use it. {I used to use 5 gallon buckets..lots of them.:) } It gets the PH up of the water, and it insures a good mix of the salt into the water.
Happy New Year!

Our sw is usually running for quite a while with a powerhead and heater in it too. I think we had to do a quick make up and dump, but I'm pretty sure it was the other tank. And the reason for that, is a whole different topic ;)

Happy New Years all!
