Trade Frags for Help with fish room

Mike,

I hope it is soon ;)

I'm just finishing up the electrical, I got the exhaust fan going and I can feel the draft. I hope it blows out the fumes so I can turn the skimmer back on.

Ill get pics up in a few.

Ok its all finished for now, tomorrow I'll pickup the flooring and save that for the weekend.

Here is the almost finished room.

Of course Lumber liquidators was out of stock of the .99 per SF flooring I wanted to use, so I didn't get the hard wood today.

Does anyone know of a flooring shop that has dirt cheap hard wood flooring?

Why not tile? Especially for those water drops and potential water spills?

I have Terrazzo through out the house and wanted something softer on the feet. I have ruled out a lot of options in laminate flooring because of the water issues. But most of all I like the look of real wood.

I laid floor covering for years . Look into the vinyl laminated wood flooring. It's awesome for such a room. The vinyl top surface is clear and it protects the wood veneer that lies under it. It is usually a peal and stick style and is easy to install . If done correctly it will last for many years without any problems. Seeing how you have a solid floor to begin with will make it that much easier. I installed some of it in Morton Plant hospital about 15 years ago when they built that wing on and it's still there.
It's not as cheap as some veneer wood floor coverings but it is well worth the price. I have it in my living room where my tanks are and water just sits on top of it. Check with some of the flooring centers in your neck of the woods to see if they have it. I purchased mine from Sunlight flooring.
Just a thought.
By the way that rooms looking good. I like the tank setup your going to be putting in there.

If your planning on real wood, your gonna spend more than a grand, especially on hardwood. I've been shopping around everywhere and I cant find anywhere cheaper than $3.89 a sq ft. Bamboo is pretty and very durable from what Ive seen. What are you planning on going with??

Don Lino, Lumber liquidators has a cherry for $3.49 a sq/ft that will look great with the stand and my cherry kitchen, They have bamboo starting a round a buck. I have thought of going with Cork, Bamboo, Cherry or Oak.

Cherry??? Serious, Im looking for the Brazilian Cherry, mainly because of the hardness and I have some little ones who play hard...I need to go with the solid though not engineered. Thank u for the heads up. Floor picking is a hard Job...

Joey-

Holy...WOW. I mean all I need is 640 sq ft...Are u looking to go with that color Greg?? It says u have to buy 1000 sq ft to get it at that price. That is awesome for some solid wood 3/8 thick...man, Im ready to buy!

Hey Greg - looking great! Remember if you use wood the water damage is not pretty - just a little warning. I have ceramic tiling throughout my house (except one room) and will never have carpet again. My one room that's not tiled has wood and it's my painting studio - some water got on the floor unknowingly and now I have a stain in it's place. I was luck that it's in a area not seen - but by me. Looking beautiful!

I can sand down and refinish solid more than engineered. Engineered they told me I can only sand down and refinish maybe two times.

How long do you plan on being in the house?

Definitely take a look at the hardwood layer on the engineered, and compare it to the layer in the solid wood. If you get the thinner stuff, especially the 3/8" from Lumber Liquidators, note that you won't even be able to sand down to the tounge and grove joint. Often times, if you buy a nice engineered wood with a thick top layer, it will be equal to the thinner solid stock.

Just something to think about. It's not like you will be sanding this every few years. I'd guess 15-20 years is more like it.

Yea, Im sorry I was thinking about the 3/4...When I sell the house I would definately like to sand and refinish. The engineered gets more expensive as u try to get a thicker top layer. Thats also what drove me away from that. Thanks for the heads up though. This thing has been such a headache...
