Hey RC, decided to upgrade to a 300gal DD:bounce1: thought I would post the whole build. I am currently completing the in-wall built stand and will try to have pics up by the end of the weekend. My fiancé and I are remodeling our basement and thought we should get a bigger tank and move our 90g out of the living room, so its happening, happening too fast.. I'm not planning on having water in the tank for a while, this will be a slowish build. I will be ordering dry rock this weekend and the tank comes end of next week. I have already purchased a 150g stock tank for a sump and a 50g refugium. I plan on adding a frag tank after the system cycles, but will plumb for it now so I won't have to later. I'll update and load pics when I can, right know I'm just framing..

Here is a picture of the stand that will hold the tank. I am framing it into the wall and will have the equipment room behind the tank. There will be some additional supports going underneath, but I will not be adding those untill I frame in the wall.

I forgot to add that I ordered a little bit of the rock for the tank. I ordered 100lbs of pukani and 50lbs of various tonga from BRS. I wanted a little bit of rock to setup in the tank when it gets here so it doesn't look so empty while I get everything else together.

 Half of the rock I ordered came in today and the other half tomorrow! I will post some pics of the rock tomorrow when I get it all out. Just learned that my tank is on schedule and should arrive by this weekend, but I still have no clue how I'm getting it in the house. I will be removing a set of stairs probably... Regardless it might be sitting in a trailer for a few days till I can round up some guys to move this beast. On another note, the stand is all sealed up and ready for priming which I should have done tonight. I can't wait till this tank gets in place so I can close up all my walls, it's holding up a lot of projects.

As far as progress goes.. I have moved the tank onto the stand, ordered 2 reeflo dart hybrids, a reef octopus SRO5000ext skimmer, and I will be ordering another 100lbs of pukani this weekend. I will post some more pics of the progress as soon as I get around to taking the pictures.. I'm starting to get anxious!

Just a suggestion as you will probably hear it from other reefers, make sure you cure that pukani rock as it is a phosphate magnet. Maybe it might not happen for you but other reefers swear by it. Great build you have started.

indeed, good work thus far. I've built something very similar (300DD in wall), so I can appreciate this job. Looking forward to more imagery!

Thanks for the advise Newbie Aquarist. When I started my 90g marineland I ordered a large pukani show piece that is great now, but unaware of the phosphate issue from lack of research I threw it right in... Let's just say nothing would grow on it well for about 6 months.. It was a constant battle! So this time around I will take everyone's advise and get this rock soaking this weekend. It's beautiful rock that's why I got it again, but I don't feel like having any headaches with this build.

Thanks Robert s b. I have read over your thread several times, I like your stand and was considering something similar when building mine.

Crvz thanks for the support. I just looked over your build thread and there looks to be a whole bunch of good tips in there, very clean setup! I am going to read through it later tonight.

Wow.. Has it really been this long since I posted...?

Ok, so I have a lot of explaining to do.. First off there are some really awesome builds that have finished up this year on RC, I have been reading like crazy trying to learn from everyone's mistakes. I have definitely picked up some pointers. So here's the story so far, life got in the way.. trying to finish remodeling my house, got married, new toys for other hobbies, lots of frag purchases way too fast for existing tank, ect.. So I learned a lesson with my small 90g that i feel will apply to any size tank, do your homework and try your hardest to do it right the first time! My 90 really ****es me off, but it's because I didn't prepare. You see I went way to fast and just figured I would learn along the way.. Well that did happen, but at a price. Let's put it this way the 300g tank in my basement along with all my other crap almost got boxed up and sold, but that would be too easy, and I like solving problems so I put everything on the back burner until I could become way more informed. I want a system that has no big headaches because I planned properly. The 90 was and is a great tank now, but I kept fighting battles that I could have prevented in the beginning that made it really un enjoyable. I have lost a lot of really great corals yet still have some good ones left, I am coming out of the woods now and gained some new motivation and that's why I'm here! Just so you know, I had no fish loss. They are all happy as can be. So on to the fun part!

I have done a ton of work in the past months and I will post some pictures as soon as I can re learn how to do that. My system is 80% plumbed and the 300 is wet and has been for probably 4 months. The rock has been in brute containers curing since at least April lol, I recently pulled it out and threw in in the sump. Rooms are getting close to completion but there has been a slight slow down from some semi serious back injuries that suck. There has been a 90g quarantine tank up and running for at least 6 months, and a whole bunch off additions that will just have to speak for themselves in the photos I put up later. I have a very large shipment of goodies coming soon that will put this build into the finishing stages and I couldn't be happier. I am confident in my approach now, slow and steady, and will hopefully have something I can really enjoy very soon. They say the build is half the fun and I can agree, but dang these large tanks get expensive fast! Anyway enough rambling, I have taking pictures of every step along the way, and there are hundreds. I will try my hardest to post them in order, and if there is something you want a closer look at just ask. Any and all suggestions are very welcome, I don't plan on putting anything in the tank for a while yet since I am at 70% with the whole project. I am getting close, the real fun begins now!

I'm digging through all my pictures right now trying to consolidate the ones related to the fish tank. I will have some up for sure tonight.

Ok, here come the pictures! I'm having trouble finding about half of them.. but still have plenty to share. Fingers crossed hope this works.
