Traumatized fish

2 days ago, a 4 years old slammed hard the 40G tank.
Since then, one of my chromis is standing in the middle of the tank, with its jaws continuously clapping and it doesn't care to grab some food at feeding time.
Needless to say, he's gonna die sooner or later, from starvation if not from exhaustion.

So what should I do to ease its end?

try to buy a medication that relieves stress for fish. also for the feeding u can soak the fish food with kent marene garlic extreme. it attracts the fish to the food.

I'd put something dark (sheet, garbage bag, whatever) around the tank so the fish can't see out for a day or two. I visit a LFS that covers any tanks with new or sick fish, so they're not stressed out with people staring at them and tapping the glass, seems like a good idea to me.
Make sure there's nothing to disturb him in any way for a while - no hands in the tank, water changes (unless it's absolutely necessary), bullying fish, four year olds... hopefully he'll be able to relax and recover, sounds like the poor little guy had quite a shock.

I don't want to pour medication in the tank.
And the fish seems to be unaware of the world surrounding him, he basically went nuts.

Honestly then it might be kindest to euthanize him; if it's that bad it sounds like he may not recover.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but I sure hope this was an accident, otherwise I'd be asking the parents to pay for a new fish.

Poor fish was dead this morning, covered by the crabs.
Yes, my original question was how to euthanize a fish?

Regarding the kid, well, he's a four year old, who loves to do silly things when nobody's watching. His parents are the first to suffer from this attitude, no need to add to their burden.
And money is not the issue, it's a $2 fish. The thing is that Chromis need to be kept in odd number, so I need to find a new one pretty quickly, which has the same size as the other chromis on top of it (otherwise the school will be unbalanced).

So, for next time, if someone can tell me what is the best way to euthanize a fish?

Ok, did some google, and the best way seems to put strong alcohol (vodka) in a cup of water, then drop the fish in it, and wait.

ced....i think it would be a good idea for you to read through the "Fish Disease Treatment Forum".

I can't believe a wack on the glass(that doesn't break the glass) would cause a fish to die of stress.

The kid was hitting the tank so hard that I heard the noise at the other side of the house, and when I was close, I heard him saying: "funny, it falled!" I then asked the kid to stop but I didn't check the tank. Then latter in the evening, when I fed the fish, one was missing. He came back the next day.
My idea is that he got some sort of attack (nerve or heart) - therefore the comment on him falling.
I check the fish everyday, and before that they all seemed fine.

Still it seems strange that banging would bother a chromis that much. They usually just hide when something scares them and get over it pretty quickly. Odds are something else was wrong with him. A healthy fish can take a lot. For example my baby clown fish jumped out of the tank and took more than a six foot plunge to the cement in my fish room. I saw him plastered to the floor and picked him up. He wiggled so I tossed him back into the tank. After a 1/2 hour of stressed out behavior he was back to normal.
