Hey guys, I just recently purchased a juvi blue angel. he eats vigorously and is a strong active swimmer. I just noticed he has these white blotches on his tail fin and his pectoral fins. What is this and what is the best way to treat this? I posted some terrible pics below, but its the best I can do.

Did you put him in your DT already.....hope not ......if in QT drop the salinity to 1.009 and let him remain in it for 30 days....

or

treat with chloroquine phosphate in the QT .........

it is in my display as I don't have anywhere else to place it. however, it's in a quarantine type container so that I can easily grab her remove her for temporary treatments or dips. I thought of an ro dip, but thought I'd check w you guys first. I also thought of adding a cleaner shrimp to the lil separation container.

from your description it could be a few things, IME I have treated fish with antibiotic rubbing it directly on the fin. It is not easy and better done with two people, one holds the fish the other rubs the antibiotic, I have seen fast results with that.

I would try Metronidazole or Oxytetracycline first, try to rub it directly in the affected area outside the tank in a bucket, have some one hold the fish slightly on the side taking him out of the water for a few seconds until you apply the medicine, place him back in the bucket as soon as you are done applying the medicine and let him stay in there for 15 minutes watching for any signs of stress. then bring him back and discard the water.

You should see improvement in a couple of days, you might also need to give it a second treatment.
Just call me if you need any clarifications.

Also since this fish is in your dt already what are the conditions of the others.....any signs .....and what is in your dt if its fish only I would just treat the whole system and be sure its taken care of 100% so it doesnt just come back or start affecting the others...

I have another angel and a small tang. I do have corals and inverts in the tank. I think Im fairly clear on how to apply the treatment. However, where can I find these Metronidazole or Oxytetracycline bacterial treatments? A pharmacy or fish store?

Thanks guys, I purchased the Metronidazole at a local lfs & have been treating her directly this entire week. After, I place her in a bucket to swim for about 30 mins before putting her back in her qt box w a pair of cleaner shrimps. I've also been feeding her Dr.g medicated food w garlic. She seems to be way better & nothing else send to have any issues.... so far
