Treating with Vitamin C

Those polyps were near death. It took about 2 weeks of treatment to get them all to open. When I stopped treatment for 2 weeks, they started closing again. I can't believe all the new growth under the older ones!

so when you stopped dosing the problem started to come back. does this mean that your corals would be dependant on the vitamen c dosing? how would that work if you plan to frag and sell/trade your corals? most people's tank wouldn't be dosing with vitamen c.

i want to try this out, but on the other hand i don't want my zoas to become dependant on vitamen c dosing. =\

I wouldn't say they are dependant. They were dieing before they ever had the C in their systems. There is obviously something in some of our tanks that make them do badly. Many folks don't always have this problem but lots do. A lot of folks are using it now that had perfectly healthy tanks & see a big difference in their corals--even their fish. Some of my SPS & LPS have doubled, since dosing!

Some folks are concerned about what will happen if they stop dosing the C. When I stop taking it, it's not like I get sick the next day. Less of a chance of my getting sick if exposed though, if I am taking it. I am a huge believer of homeopathic remedies & take a lot of suppliments daily. Vitamin C actually got me thru a bout of chemo at one time, boosting my imune system to the point where I was able to quit early & still recover (I was taking 20,000mg daily).

What I didn't expect was for it to boost all my healthier corals so much! Geoxman had a perfectly healthy tank when he started dosing & he's a firm believer of using it for healthy corals too now. Some folks are even seeing differences in their healthy fish. So far, I have seen absolutely no negative results from doing this.

I know a gal was concerned, that when I stopped dosing, my Tubb's blues started receding again & maybe they were "dependent' on the C. I say, that there is obviously something awry with my tank or strain of zoas that are causing them to succumb to this malady so frequently & if I have to always dose my tank, then so be it. What I (& she) was wondering, if I sell these zoas, will the buyer have to dose too? I wonder...

I just started dosing my 40 after seeing puffers tank. I will try and report with results as time goes on.

Ok I have a frag that's developing the fungus. It's been closed up for 4 days now. Started dosing yesterday so let see how it does. I'm starting with 500mg and it's a 20gal tank. Here is a pic of it.

What is that a frag of? Nice bright orange, I hope you don't lose it. That is different that the brown coating I had on mine that they were calling a "fungus". Let's see how yours does. I'd also like to see if this helps with zoapox. I wonder if it might protect zoas from getting it from others in their tank.

thanks for the pictures revautosports keeps us posted. i look forward to seeing good results and some pictures of them doing better.

I've started dropping 1000mg into my softie/LPS 40g tank. My puffer's fins have a bit of white fungusy spots on them & I wanted to see how my other non-zoas fair with the C. Although I do have similar corals in my main tank too, I really didn't observe them very closely, as I was just concerned about the zoas in there at the time I started dosing.

i hae a 220, with roughly 100 gallon sump, i have already lost a colony of zoas, and my others are suffering, i too am sold on this. How many mg's you think i should start with, and eventually max out at????

I started dosing my zoos 2 days ago. Most of mine are fine minus my Red zoos which have closed up for a few days now. Well see how it goes. I did notice them starting to open late last night so well see... Ill post some before pics later tonight when I get home from work! :)

I have a 12g nano and im dosing 250mg a day to start

The link froze on me.
It is a nice 80's mauve colored bottle with a brown lid. On the front it says

GNC
Vitamin C Crystals
DIETARY SUPPLEMENT
..................................

with rose hips

NET WT. 8oz. (227g)

I would call your local GNC a better yet a small business family run health food store and ask for "pure ascorbic acid with no fillers", tell them you are allergic--then they get really interested??

The pure is the only way to go as it is a better source of the vitamin and it has not been exposed to heat and a press with other fillers added.

I will shoot you a PM in case you need more information.

Yes the orange is super bright on it. I don't think it has a name. Doesn't look good right now. It looks like it's going to melt as my zoas spew out the brown stuff and close up then they get small and melt away. Well today's day 2 on dosing. I'll keep you guys updated on this.

revautosports-this is not a miracle drug and from your picture on the previous page I do not think yours will make it. I really do not like when reefers sell/trade such small frags of zoanthids as their survival rate plummets, especially when shipped.

I have read countless threads where people are upset because their single, designer, fancy named polyp that was shipped from the South of Guam and is melting and not looking well??

I have also gotten small frags local that did not do well, for many reasons, not by my doing.

I will keep my fingers crossed and I hope they pull through for you. IMHO I would take a look at dosing the C for the health of the other inhabitants as well.

How old is your tank? good luck
