i love treating vitamin C.

for a minute, I thought you said, I love eating vit. C

Hello,

Just found this thread after lots of searching to cures for Zoas issues. Tried reading it all then I realized its 3 splits long :D

My zoas have the zoas pox and I am awaiting some Furan-2 so I can treat them.

I also ordered some Sodium Ascorbate from iHerb.

I saw alot of pictures in the beginning of this thread that looked like zoa pox.

Mine have the pox but they are still opening up during the day. Polyps definitely shrinking slightly. I see some pods and bristle worms crawling around the polyps also but I am fairly sure they only go after dying polyps that are covered in algae or fungus of some kind.

My question is:

Are people using Vitamin C as the only way to treat zoas that have the pox? Everything else I have read suggests doing 3x Furan-2 RO-water dips until it clears up.

I am thinking of treating with the furan dips as well as starting a low-dose of vitamin C to held recovery.

Has anybody in this thread seen their zoas recover from the pox using only C??

Thanks!

I saw it mentioned that ph needs to be 8.2. I have issue with low ph and high alk. Does that mean I should stary away from VitC dosing?

When Thiel wrote his article it was before we had the bufffered VC. I think you should be fine. Did you get the $5 coupon code? Look on the 1st page of the thread here, I did a recap.

I'm trying to figure out how much to dose on my system. From time to time I have the melting zoa issue so I figured I'd give this a try. Being up in Canada the only product I was able to find in powder form and pure VitC was a product made by Now Foods. This is also buffered.

In the fact info it says 1/2 teaspoon (2.25g) contains 2.25g of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Ascorbate).

Thanks in advance.

Well, that's the same strength of the product I am dosing: 1112mg/ 1/4tsp. So go by the chart at the beginning of this thread.

Can somebody pm me with what vit C to buy and use on a 150 gallons please...

It's all outlined in this thread.

Use this product:
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails...293197697039798
$5 0ff coupon code: LUL789
1/4 tsp=1112 mg.

For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC
Dose 2x/day.
Start at 5 ppm for maintenance and increase if needed for zoa problems.

does vit c the buffered one raise alk?
mine rose from 12 to 15

when does ppl usually start seeing results for zoos being bigger, faster growing?

oh i forgot to mention there is one thing i did realize.
one of the colonies started to spread out on the rock. not like grow in abundance but when they were growing, they would be so packed next to each other. now there is spaceing between them.
is that normal?

Buffered VC shouldn't raise anything. If anything, VC would lower it, making it more acidic (non-buffered). Are you adding alk? What salt are you using?

im not adding anything.
im using reef crystals
and sometimes i do a water change with 1/4 oceanic and 3/4 reef crystals.

so today i decided to go to the next step up and added 1 full teaspoon of vit c
my tank didnt get cloudy but i did realize that my zoanthids are opening as much and one of them looks like they are melting (i think)

my alk is a little high (its at 15) just to let you know so i dont know if its the vit c possible overdose??
