Treating with Vitamin C

the vc you use @ iherb. both tanks get same dosings(2 part), same foods, same salt, etc. but the nano gets vc and the ph is dropping while alk remains the same. idk, never happened to me before, so i figured must be the vit c as its the only difference. started thread in chem forum but no answer yet.

I can definitely see a difference in my tank.. The zoanthids look more colorful, and are opening more fully. It seems that I am getting more polyp extension from my other corals as well. I will post some pics in a few days. I am glad a started this. I am now using the product from Iherb. I used up my other bottle of non buffered VC already.

IBASSFSH - I very much appreciate the update, personally

Puffer - does it come in a crystal form? Granular? Powdered? Would it lend itself to automated dosing from a controller-run dryfood fish auto-feeder?

Sorry - been following this one intermittently for months, so I don't catch 100% (though I'm your advocate, as you know ;) )

I'm trying to plan as much automation as possible for my next system...

Pufferpunk I never checked the alkalinity or ph. I just observed the tanks inhabitants. The only negative effect I have observed is the drastic reduction in ORP, that really did not hurt anything. I just continued adding 1 1/2 coffee cups of my two part solution every night. I am not sure how much I am adding currently, as I have not read the serving size on this bottle. I am adding approx. 3 heaping teaspoons a day. That is probably under what I should be using, but its working at that dosage.

I seem to be having a problem with my dosing.

I started off dosing 1/4 tsp 2x's a day for about a week. I then went to 1/2 tsp 2x's a day for about 2 weeks (buffered from iHerb).

My zoa's seem to have gotten worse. I went from one or two colonies not opening to about half not opening.

I upped the dosing to 1 tsp this afternoon and now every single polyp in the tank is closed up. Not saying that the VC is absolutly the culprit, but I am not sure what else it could be.

Also, in these few weeks, I lost ever LPS colony I had in this tank. Some of these I have had for 2+ years.

I checked my Alk (8.6) CA (450) and PH (7.9) and all seem to be in line for the most part.

I think I am going to stop VC for a while to see how everything responds.

I'm afraid there must be something else wrong with your tank. I can't guarantee VC will save zoas that are just too far gone but it will definately not kill your LPS. Mine are better than ever, even doaing at 23ppm.

What is the slick slimey goo that gets on everything from dosing VC? I dosed for a few weeks and then stopped. In my frag tank, months later after dosing, there is still residual goo.

Have you looked at health food stores? I think you'd have that bottle used up in a week, dosing the recommended amounts we ar here.
