My Vitamin C should be here today from i-Herb.com, and I'll be sure to document the changes in my tanks starting tomorrow... I can't wait!

I will admit, however, that I did not read all 120 pages of this crazy thread, but I have read the recaps and talked to others who have been dosing, so I feel pretty confident in my decision to start dosing. Puffer, thanks so much for this thread, I can't wait to see the improvements it makes.

Well I started dosing i-herb vitamin C this week, and have noticed a couple of unwelcome changes. I cannot be positive that these are from the vitamin C, but I want to post them here in case others have input on the situation. Not saying they are definitely due to VC, but the only other change that happened this week was a ~15% water change, and changing the halide bulb over my sump from 10k to 20k.

1. Increased cyano growth. I had one small spot of cyano in my display tank, and none in my 150g stock tank (sump/prop tank). After a week of dosing the cyano spread to cover roughly 3x the area it previously had and showed up in several spots on frag rubble on the rack in my sump.

2. Completely retracted polyps in 2 digitatas, partial retraction in 1 other digitata and 2 encrusting corals. All of these corals had been growing well for the past 1+ years with no problems. Now I'm seriously concerned I may lose the pink (nicest) digitata and I'm going to transfer it to another reefer's tank tonight. Its polyps have been in for 4-5 days now and the coenosteum is looking poor.

I have 40+ different montipora in the system, and it is only a handful that are showing these symptoms. Stylos, acros, seriatopora, and zoas all seem fine. Could just certain varieties be ultra sensitive to the increased carbon in the system? What are everyone's thoughts? I stopped dosing VC 2 days ago and siphoned out most of the cyano and some of the corals with poor extension seem to be improving. It could be that the water change was a shock to the system, and it's just stabilizing now too.

What are everyone's thoughts? The dosing level was 1/4tsp/1x per day in roughly 210 gallon system (accounting for dsb in sump, and LR). It doesn't seem to me like such a tiny amount should have an effect though. All other parameters are normal.

I've always had issues with PE in my tank. My orange digi barely put out any polyps until I started dosing VC. Now it's covered in bright orange polyps. I had a cyano outbreak after dosing for about a year, so I didn't think it had anything to do with the VC & it's completely gone now & haven't changed dosing the 23ppm I've been using for 18+ months. HTH

I thought I might've got banned from the site, must have been my stupid computer....oh well.

Puffer...my zoos now look worse than they did before I started dosing. I have a 90 gal with a 29 gal sump. I worked my way up to 2 teaspoons twice a day. I noticed this on Friday and thought that maybe a crab had disturbed the colonies. But that's not the case. They are either closed up, stretching, or completely melting. Can the Vitamin C go bad? Or do I not have enough nutrients in the water because of skimming. All of the sps, lps look great. No changes in water chemistry either.

Thanks for your help

KRis

Sometimes the cause of zoas /melting/dying may not be the same as may of the rest of us & you actually have some kind of disease. I know VC will not get rid of zoa fungus. I have been dosing my 90g w/2tsp for 18+ months now. I skim daily, except the 24 hours after feeding.

I really think it would be more helpful to state what dosage you are using, not the quantity you are using.....

I'm not looking to cure anything in my tank, just enhance color and maybe help growth a little, would 10ppm still be considered low?

a few more posts and this thread will split. :)

I was up to 2 teaspoon a day and stop because of personal reason but now back to 1/4 teaspoon, twice a day everything is back to normal. Zoos never looks better.

my lps and sps acting weird but I couldn't pin-point the problem so I stop dosing Vit. C for a while but that didn't help either. still not sure, so I continue to dose again now.
