Treating with Vitamin C

I have a question about sodium ascorbate, my bottle reads 1.89g vit C from Sodium ascorbate and 210 mg Sodium from Sodium ascorbate. Does your I-herb product list both as well? I have been dosing Vit C on and off for almost 15 years with good results.

Yes, it does:
Supplement Facts
Serving Size: 1/4 Teaspoon (1.25 g)
Servings per Container: 363
Amount Per Serving % Daily Value
Vitamin C (as sodium ascorbate USP-FCC*) 1112 mg 1853%
Sodium (as sodium ascorbate USP-FCC*) 137 mg 6%

That's odd... Are you using the buffered form? Mine never dropped a bit.

Yep, using the form that you recommended. It returns to the same level around a day later, just before I dose again. Which PH monitor are you using? I'm using the Pinpoint one. Calibrated many times with the same result. Just ordered another container of the VC, so will make sure I didn't get a bad batch or anything.

I doubt you got a bad batch--that company is very reliable. I test with a Salifert test. You do know the pH rises & falls throughout the day/night?

yes for sure. In the morning my PH is around 7.97 or so, and after the lights come up in starts to rise to around 8.05.....depending on whether or not I add VC. While the lights are still on, I add the VC, and then the PH starts dropping...with the lights still on. If I miss a dose, the PH never drops....until the lights go off again.

Adding VC & vodka is redundant IMO. VC does way more for your corals than just a carbon source.

Im not sure if this is correct. I read somewhere (cant remember where but ill try and find it) that different bacteria may feed on different carbon sources and in turn it will actually benefit your tank to dose multiple carbon sources in smaller amounts. I saw a VSV ( vodka, sugar, viniger) dosing method for a few different kinds of bacteria working against eachother and actually making the persons system look amazing. However i do think that vitamin c has a benefit on our systems as ive been dosing it for about 2 1/2 years now. Im not sure we can explain how it works in the reef system because i dont think scientists even fully know how it works in humans ( but it does). I recently started dosing vodka along with my vitamin c to see if i can get some better colors in my corals, ill post in a month or so to see if i notice a difference.

I have been dosing 2 days. The thing I have noticed is redox goes down significantly. I am going to monitor it today and see how long it takes for it to rebound.

I can not believe I read all of the splits since the beginning.

This thread is very informative.

?
Can u dose on a barebottom tank?
How mature must the dosed tank be? A year plus?

If I missed this from a previous post, sorry.

Thanks for the help.
