Found a true perc at LFS and never saw one with this coloration before and I was literally stunned when I saw it. Keep in mind I have spend countless hours and gallons of gas in search of something different. I have by no means seen all there is to see but you get my drift. So...while at the LFS (will remain nameless for now) I spotted this true perc of about 2 1/2 inches and it had all 3 full stripes in white and from the dorsal down it started in a deep yellow and that darkened to a brown overal with its pectoral fins a bright orange. It was really a unique fish. Needless to say I watched it for at least 15 minutes to see if it was lighting, disease or any other malnormities that could be tricking me eye to see this unique coloration and it wasn't.

I was wondering if anyone has the site (i believe its wondonga or something like that) that shows the different clown morphs so I can narrow down where it is from.

The LFS owner said it was a tank raised clown that he got from LA (not sure if he means LA as in the city or Live Aquaria)
Please help so I can figure this out and purchase or not....and no I don't have pictures (old cell phone)

Sounds almost like a fish from the clarkii complex, except (obviously) for its being a percula. Maybe she's a sport of some kind, instead of being a regional morph?

One of the hobby magazines had an article recently that showed all of the different ocellaris morphs. They *might* have had the percs as well...I'll have to dig through my piles o' fish geek magazines and see if I can find it.

And JMO, if the fish is healthy and eating well, and you like her, I'd say go ahead and grab her. You may never see another like her again!

I think your referring to Coral Magazine and their designer clown issue, I will also have to look that up but pretty sure not shown there.

I would love to get her but I already have a spawning, super aggressive pair of occy's. Would be a good reason to sell off the pair or move to the qt tank though.

Just don't need the wife in my ear about running another tank

Which picture were you referring to on that link? Did you get a picture of the fish you can post? It sounds interesting.

30 pages of google and no luck, nothing close.

someone out there has to have a link to some site??????

I have never seen a percula that started with yellow at the dorsal and got darker as it went down the side of the body. Normally it is the reverse - a dark back with a lighter or yellow belly.

Unless, of course, you are talking about a latezonatus (like in my avatar) but that doesn't really look like a perc...

Bonsai now that you mention it, its somewhat similar but it is certainly not a Lat. Its similar to your avatar but not quite so dramatic, it slowly fades to brown. Here is a quote from someone who might have a little better idea than us.

"In the Waters of Peninsular Malaysia.......exists a Fish with different pattern..........specially in Land Fill Zone of Semakau...........Singapore.........in most of cases in simbiosis with Stichodactyla gigantea..........frequently exposed at Low Tide.......

The stripes shape looks much more A. percula.....than the Philippine Sea A. ocellaris.......

The color of the body is very Dark........almost Black......in older fishes........but the belly and the rest of the body is Orange..............

Some times you will find Pink coloration.......both in the body and in the stripes.........

Once the scientists report the ocurrence in A&N islands........of both species.........this Region of Malaysia is an overlap region.............

But I don´t think that they are Natural Hybrids..........A. percula is more frequently seen in S. gigantea............in sandy places..........

And A. ocellaris in H. magnifica..........that prefer deeper waters..........and like to stay in rocky areas..............."

How much was it?
My personal policy is: whenever I see something I (think I) want, if the price is reasonable...I buy it!
Most things (not livestock) can be returned, if I change my mind, and if not I can usually sell it and not lose much.
I find this a much better way, than to be upset when I go back to get it and it's GONE!

well. I suggest that you run back there tomorrow...if you wish to keep this '29gal Rare Clown breeding ' in your signature!

LOL.......Funny, your exactly right. I'm also a little affraid that once I post pics it will just be a normal clown that I've never seen. none the less, I really like it and thats what matters
