Love them clownfish.
Took a few snippets of video of my tricinctus pair and thought I'd share. Dont seem to see these fish ever which is a shame because unlike chrysopterus clowns, they do not lose their color. They stay so nice and vibrant its wonderful. But they certainly have an attitude.
Some back story:
Almost a year and a half ago I saw this tiny three inch tricinctus with a mangled bloody jaw being sold as a sebae clown for $19. I snatched it up immediately. The jaw very quickly healed, the fish ballooned in size but finding another fish to pair it with was impossible. Well over a year went by with no leads at all. Suddenly Liveaquaria had some pop up, and they shipped me extra tiny ones, but if they werent dead in the bags they died shortly after. Blue zoo could get some, but they were expensive and recommended air freight instead of regular overnight ground and the cost became rather prohibitive. A hawaiian outfit held on to one for me and although at 2.5 inches its size concerned me I had it shipped anyways.
It arrived looking awesome, and after two weeks in a tank full of BTAs instead of a QT, I placed the fish in a tiny critter keeper and weighed it down near the anemone. I did this for a few days. Amazingly my female clown was completely uninterested in the new clown.
(Years ago, previous pairing attempts of a few different tricinctus clowns than this one always ended up with the female killing or chasing the males out of the aquarium relentlessly, in addition to killing any other fish added to the tank)
So I released the fish, and again still no conflicts. I kept a tight egg crate lid on for an additional ten days though just in case (see above). There was a few days where there was some spontaneous heavy chasing, some ragged fins and the little guy was always behind the rocks which had me very worried it wasnt going to work out. But it quickly passed and now theyre inseparable, angrily enjoying chasing the blue damsels together.
