Can someone with chemistry knowledge please look over my test results? Also how do i convert the mg/l to the standard ppm? Lastly my salinity is 10981mg/l. Whats is that in ppt?Status LAB: User-ID: 2954

ug/l ~ ppb
mg/l ~ ppm

1 ppt = 1,000 ppm = 1,000,000 ppb

To convert to sg, use this:

sg=1+ppt*4/3

Your sg = 1.008.

Which is very low?

Well something is definitely off because the results you show here say just a smidge under 11ppt.

Perhaps I'm missing something, David, but since his sodium concentration is approximately 11 ppt, and the ratio of sodium chloride's MW to sodium's MW is 2.54, then he would have the equivalent of 28 ppt. That's ignoring the sulfate component, of course, which would adjust his results just a bit higher.

Still not 35 ppt, but a lot closer, no?

Well I just ordered the Milwaukee digital refractometer. I'll post results when it gets here. My current refractometer is still showing 35. I'm thinking if this could be off from the lab what else is.

The salinity looks a little above 35 ppt since all of Na, Mg, K, and Ca are a little above the 35 ppt equivalent. There's no way the salinity can be below 35 ppt.

I'm having tissue loss on some sps. Could the low iodine be the cause? I'm using rscp salt and dose nothing.

That's his sodium level, which is close enough for 35 ppt seawater (just a tiny tad high).

His Na, Ca, K, and Mg are all a bit high, so his actual salinity is a bit over 35 ppt, if Triton's values are correct.

OK, I got confused when they called it salinity.

Ok well my water is coming up at 1.027 on the Milwaukee refratometer. I found a calculator to lower it through water changes. My question is how do I know how much salt to put in 5gal to get the 1sg that the calculator is calling for?

Also they reccomended splitting the 5gal 1sg up in three water changes. Is that necessary or could I do the whole 5 at once? Water volume is about 80gal and I'm shooting for 1.025.

Zero salt to get 1.00000 sg. :)

I wouldn't drop from 1.027 to 1.025 in one shot. Spreading over at least 3 days seems wise. Maybe more.

Thre's nothing wrong with a sg of 1.027 so there's no rush. :)
