Trochus snails they are incredible

All I can say is wow I've never had them in a reef and now that I have em I can't believe I went without em for so long. Fast and thorough I swear my astrea and turbo snails hide in shame now.

Trochus also seem much better at flipping themselves upright when they are upside down, than astrea or turbos, in my experience.

how big do they get. do you have to worry about them knocking down corals like the turbos? i recently added 4 margarita snails (2 months ago) and i am amazed with how much appetite they have. day and night they are busy eating off rocks and glass. astreas are the worst. they barely eat, they can't turn themselves back up, and they die easily. i lost all 5 of mine in 2 months. all my other snails are doing perfectly fine and my water parameters are good.

They don't get large, about the size of astreas. They are algae eating powerhouses, best snail for cleaning algae off of the glass & rock imo. Margarita snails are a temperate species & don't do well long term in reef tanks.

Yep, to me the trochus are the best bang for the buck as far as snails go. Astrea's just end up flipping themselves over at some point so you are always replacing them.

This is why I only purchase trochus snails now.....turbos get too big and knock frags over, and astreas flip over and die.....

the trochus are pretty great, I like Nerites also, they can get into some spots the Trochus can't.

Do not add margarita snails, as they are a coldwater species and will die in your tropical tank.

+1! They are best kept a cold water tank such as an NPS. They might survive for a couple of months but then they become fish/crab food.

do they hang on top of your tank by the water line?

I want to get rid of my Nerites for some Trochus.. all they do is cluster on the corners of glass tank.

Shhhhhhh they already cost over $3. They are good breeders and can keep self population. Just don't tell anyone or soon they will cost $7 each.
