Tropic Marin Pro Salt - Is it a Good Salt? I am looking for a Low Alkalinity Salt

You add it in a mixing bucket and aerate, so that the carbon dioxide gets removed from the water. That way the fresh saltwater will have the same pH as any other saltwater with the same alkalinity would have. Muriatic acid leaves no residue that would lower your tank pH after aeration...

Any Acid (Like Vodka)

I will never add to my tank.

I am overly paranoid maybe but I will not do it

Does Anyone have the big three parameters for TMP?

I have switched to this Salt and Love It.

First Bucket

Alkalinity 8.8
Calcium 485
Magnesium 1410

Second Bucket

Alkalinity 8.9
Calcium 485
Magnesium 1410

I Highly Highly Recommend It.

I mix mine a week early, at 78degrees prewarmed ro/di water I get this brown precip. sorry I cannot give any test details, I don't really test.

I Mix Mine before work and use it when I get back same day.

Some Salts are meant to be used right away.

I am not sure if Tropic Marin Pro is that way because I have never left it out long.

I know you are supposed to use Salinity within 4 Hours of Mixing it.

I once left a Bucket out overnight and it was very very cloudy (Salinity that is not Tropic Marin Pro).

Tropic Marin Pro mixes Crystal Clear too.

It is much much Clearer than any Salt that I have ever used.

I Highly Highly recommend it.

I've been searching for a low Alk salt as well because I like to keep my Alk around 8-8.5. I currently use Red Sea Coral Pro but was considering switching to regular Red Sea (blue bucket).

After reading about Tropic Marin Pro REEF, it sounds like I may switch to that instead. Here's what I found on test parameters from their websites:

Red Sea Regular @ 35.5 (1.0264)

Ca 420-440
Alk 7.8-8.2
Mg 1250-1310

Tropic Marin Pro REEF @ 1.0264

Ca 430-450
Alk 7-8
Mg 1300-1350

@That fish guy. What's your total volume? How much water are you changing each time? Have checked your alk before and after a w/c? if so, what's the difference?

IME, trying to keep your numbers EXACT, you'll drive yourself nuts. I usually try to keep my params within a range. Alk for example, I try to keep it between 7.5 and 8.5. I don't start adjusting my dosing unless it's above or below. Even my salinity, anywhere between 1.023 and 1.025 is acceptable to me.

Just a thought

Agreed, tropic marin pro is great. It is one of the only salts I've found that mixes clear leaving no residue. The parameters are constant without insane high alk. I've mixed this salt and had it the tank within a hour.

I have 5 Tanks 55, 29, 20, 20, and 10

I change 50 Percent of the Water and am Close to Spot on with Alkalinity Before and After with Tropic Marin Pro.

TMP is my favorite salt but has become hard for me to get locally so I decide to try a different salt which brought me to the red sea reg.
Red sea reg alk(8)is fine for me but calcium(410) tests a tad low, with magnesium(1185)very low.

I lost some coral colonies a couple of years back using Pro due to very low alk (5). I still run across threads on here that people are still seeing very low alk.

you don't test your water before you add it?
Parameters was always good, once I got the calcium reactor dialed in. The new saltwater also tested good. So after over a year of testing water which seemed useless at the time. I stopped testing. It wasn't until some colonies started to stn that I started testing again. Lesson learned. My LFS spoke to them about the low alk in their mix. And was told that the salt was made to be sold in Europe, due to their water conditions. I didn't believe that so I switched salts anyways.

That is why I wish a thread would be up dated to keep reefers informed of a salts parameters. Its sucks to have to go out and spend a lot of money on salt only to find out you don't like the parameters.

How is the Water in Europe any Different than here?

Don't they use RO Water there?

An sps retailer and only supplier of Tropic Marin products near my house advocates Regular Tropic Marin over the Pro.
He says the Regular salt has a lower alk than the pro... Anyone has experience with both to comment on this claim?

It's actually the opposite. According to their website, Regular runs 9-10 Alk and Pro runs 7-8 Alk, so I think your sps retailer might be wrong. Their levels are based on mixing to 1.0264.
