I have a pair of 6100s that I bought 4 months ago. I soaked each in venegar water to clean them at 3 months.

One of them has stopped functioning properly. I noticed last night that the propeller had stopped moving. I took the unit out of the water and it was warm to the touch.

I took out the the drive unit and verified there wer no deposits nor foreign objects in the chanber and felt the magnet was hot.

I put everything back together and plugged the unit in again. It worked fine.

Tonight I got home and it was not running again. I took the stream out, took out the drive unit (again no buildup or blockages) and re-assembled. Plugged it back in and it worked.

I hit the feed button, fed the fish and left it be. An hour later I found that the pump was not moving again.

I took the unit out, it was warm to the touch, the magnet on the drive unit was hot to the touch. I then submerged the unit in a bucket of cool water - no effect. I got online here to ask this question - went back to look at the bucket and the stream was running.

What do you think it could be?

Neither of the times the pump stopped did the alarm sound. Seems strange to me, the pump has only been in use for 4 months or so.

Thanks
Chris

Often people over look important details when cleaning. Is the magnet cracked- even just a hairline crack? Is the upper bearing stuck to the magnet- see stickied thread at the top of the forum. Is the hole in the center of the magnet obstructed by lime or sand.

As of this morning it was still running. I will dissassemble the drive unit this evening and check all the parts again.

Why wouldn't the alarm sound? I know there is power going to the unit (it was hot to the touch) and the drive unit was not turning. I thought the 6100s had an alarm signal when that happens?

Thanks

I don't know, the alarm works on a sensor system and it does have a blind spot and if the magnet is cracked it really doesn't work too well. If this is the old style drive unit, the magnet may be turning but not engaging the prop.
