ok here is an update, just got off the phone with him, he saw that the pump came with a little ball valve, so we have that taken care of but as he slowly adjusted the ball valve he noticed that instead of the sump draining too fast it kept filling up almost overflowing. So i guess that means his overflow is clear and not blocked. Now i am stumped, unless the pump is clogged some how or something what could cause this. his overflow is not bigger then the pump. How could 300 or 400 gph overflow box drain more water into the sump then a 780gph pump push back up into the tank. anyone think of any ideas of what this could be now, anything, nothing is too far off i am going to be on the phone with him all day tomorrow trying to solve this problem. hope the above makes sense i am a bit tired

noob could you tell me how the u tube is installed? there is a long end that should go on the outside of the overflow box and there is a shorter piece that should go in the tank side where the skimmer box is (inside the fishtank)

The U tube for the syphon is actually the same length in both the outside box and inside box.
Now the problem is the opposite. The pump is not pushing enough water into the tank to keep up with the overflow. And this is with the ball valve open 100% ... This is driving me crazy. I'm about to say F this whole thing and sell it all back.

you just need someone that knows the stuff to come over. I would if it wasn't an hour plus drive to get there. I'm sure if you post your area, someone near you would be able to stop by one of these days. Don't quit!

he did not want to mess with another over flow, too much plumbing for him and did not want that much flow into the sump. thanks though, Rogger after messing with the bal valve he put it on but after turning it closed a little it did not work so he opened it up all the way, i still do not get that part but he then lowered the overflow box in the tank a bit more. I am going to have him get some more pictures to confirm it is all going to be ok. I just went over what happens if the power goes out lol. maybe the ball valve slowed the flow down enough even though it was wide open? I just realized i will be flying to tampa a lot so i am going to take some cheap flights over once and a while to check on it and stuff. I am mailing him my older skimmer soon so he is gonna be all good. thanks for all the help with it, lets keep our fingers crossed for now.

It is working. Thanks guys for your help ... After putting the ball valve on, I started messing with it while the water was not being pushed into the tank fast enough (opposite problem) so I ended up opening the valve all the way. The water was still rising in the sump but very slowly. So I started messing with the overflow box INSIDE the tank like someone had mentioned to slow the flow into the sump so I ended up raising it as much as I could. The water in the sump now was basically holding its position but it was still rising veryyyyyy little. I then took a few cups of water out of the tank itself and watched the sump level and there you have it. Problem fixed.
Bottom line. It was the overflow box and the water level in the tank.
